19 Objective of the Course: Measurement, rhythm, key concept, interval and tonality concept in music, formation of chords; basic musical terms used in musical reading and writing (auxiliary signs, expressive signs, abbreviations and ornaments, dynamic, tempo and expression terms, etc.); major and minor scales; chords in the root position; reading and writing monophonic melodies in different tones suitable for their level.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development By understanding the relationships between sounds gaining hearing, reading and writing skills and using these skills in the Teaching Profession ability to use.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to know the sound and the properties of sound.;
2 To be able to know the basic elements of notation and to transcribe sounds.;;
3 One-line octave. To be able to read and write to intervals between c1- g2. (c1- e1; c1- g1; c1- c2; c1- e2; c1- g2). ;;
4 To be able to name the intervals and their inversions. To be able to form, hear and write to the intervals of perfect, major, minor, diminished, augmented.;;
5 To be able to form, sing and write to the major, minor, diminished, augmented triads and their inversions. ;
6 To be able to know and group the measures as simple, compound and mixed. To be able to write and sing with simple measures. ;;
7 To be able to recognize, read, write and sing the major and minor scales.;
8 Tonality in music. To be able to know the diatonic, chromatic and enharmonic scales and their degrees and properties. ;
9 To be able to improve the habit of sight-reading. To be able to analyze the simple melodies in terms of music forms and write to similar melodies.;
10 To be able to analyze the musical pieces in terms of tonal, rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, dynamic, tempo and expression.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Course objectives, content and resources. What is musical sound? Its properties: Frequency/pitch, loudness/amplitude, timbre and duration. The elements of musical notation: Note, staff/stave, clef, etc… Preliminary assessment to determine readiness levels.
2 Half, quarter, eight note and rest values. Simple measures. Two beat simple measure and its practices. Solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading.
3 Whole tone and semitone. Forming and singing exercises with intervals. Describing and classification of intervals: Perfect, major, minor, augmented and diminished intervals. Diatonic, chromatic and enharmonic scales. Exercises about intervals and scales forming. Solfege and rhythmic reading.
4 Consonance and dissonance intervals. Reading, writing and singing exercises on C major and a minor scales and chord progressions. Three beat simple measure. Interval forming, singing and writing exercises.
5 What is chord? Major, minor, diminished and augmented triads and their inversions. Four beats simpe measure. Chord forming, singing and writing exercises. Dictation and solfege.
6 Exercises about triads. Primary triads and cadences in a tonality. Reading, writing and singing exercises on C major and a minor scales and chord progressions.
7 Music terminology (tempo and rhythm, dynamics, expressions, ornaments and abbreviations, etc.). Exercises about sight-reading. Exercises about music terminology and homework.
8 G major and e minor scales and tonalities. Reading, writing and singing exercises on G major and e minor scales and chord progressions. Solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading.
9 A simple measure: 3/8 and 3/4. Basic rules about the notations. Reading exercises about 3/8 and 3/4 measure. Practices about musical notation. Solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading.
10 Syncopation. Rhythm exercises and rhythmic analysis. Reading and writing exercises with syncopation. Solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading.
11 F major and d minor scales and tonalities. Reading, writing and singing exercises on F major and d minor scales and chord progressions.
12 Practices about improving ear training. Solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading.
13 Composing with the basic musical form rules. Composing exercises. Mid-Term Exam
14 Analysing some music pieces with their dynamics in terms of tonal, rhythmic and harmonic. Exercises and homework about musical analysing. An overview and preparation to the final exam.
