19 Objective of the Course: To inform prospective teachers about the characteristics of Young Learners (YLs), provide a theoretical basis for methods and approaches regarding teaching English to YLs, and transfer prospective teachers’ theoretical knowledge into practice with variety of in-class activities.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The course that requires the use of right approaches and techniques, development of activities and materials, planning of lessons according to the age and developmental features of children, and conducting assessment appropriate for child learners, focuses on the growth of theoretical background and skills thus prepares teacher trainees to the classroom, helps them gain awareness and have correct expectations. Therefore, it has great importance for professional development.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Identify characteristics of child ELT learners. ;
2 Distinguish differences between child, adolescent and adult ELT learners. ;
3 Develop a critical understanding to theory and practice relevant with teaching young learners.;
4 Develop skills to decide and implement appropriate methods and techniques to teach young learners. ;
5 Do self-evaluation and reflection on planning, implementation and assessment processes.;
6 Gain skills to produce, develop and implement activity and materials in accordance with activity-based learning;
7 Plan lessons by using themes from global issues within the framework of social responsible teaching.;
8 Develop and use digital materials appropriate for children,;
9 Select and use appropriate assessment techniques for children and give feedback,;
10 Create learning environments that are appropriate with child learners developmental levels and characteristics.;

7 Theme-based teaching: Environmental Education Digital Story
8 Assessment
9 Selecting an activity according to the children’s characteristics and present it in the classroom. Finding/creating an activity and analyze it according to the criteria in the book.
10 Introducing an activity by using appropriate teacher talk and other support types
11 Finding an authentic material and prepare an activity with it. Setting-up classroom rules for management, represent them visually
12 Preparing an activity-based lesson plan
13 Preparing a Theme –based lesson plan+ creating a digital story to be used in the warm-up
14 Preparing an assessment tool for a unit in the ELTP
