19 Objective of the Course: Providing researchers with comprehensive information about contemporary developments in linguistics. Contemporary linguistic theories and the role of applied linguistics in language acquisition and foreign language teaching; analysis of methods, practices and materials in the teaching process of German as a foreign language from the perspective of contemporary linguistic theories.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The content of the course is aimed at contributing to develop of scientist qualifications of the students.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to explain contemporary linguistic theories.;
2 To be able to understand and explain the novelties of the contemporary linguistic theories.;
3 To be able to realize and explain the relationship between contemporary linguistic theories and language acquisition.;
4 To be able to grasp and explain the relationship between contemporary linguistic theories and foreign language education.;
5 To be able to evaluate the methods, implementations and materials used in the teaching of German as a foreign language from the perspective of contemporary linguistic theories.;
6 To be able to find up to date solutions to solve the problems arising in the process of foreign language learning and teaching.;
7 To be able to prepare scientific studies on the linguistic theories and language education.;
8 To be able to guide others on using language technology in language learning and teaching;

1 Introducing of semester program, preparing of study plan.
2 Historical development of the linguistic theories.
3 Introduction into the generalized phrase structure grammar (GPSG).
4 Introduction to Head-driven phrase structure grammar (HPSG). Assigning research projects.
5 Introduction to the minimalist program (MP).
6 The relation between contemporary linguistic theories and language acquisition.
7 The relation between contemporary linguistic theories and foreign language teaching.
8 Contemporary linguistic theories and Common European Framework for languages.
9 Analyzing foreign language learning and teaching materials in terms of contemporary linguistic theories.
10 Investigating the relationship between language and culture in the process of foreign language learning and teaching in terms of contemporary linguistic theories.
11 21st century skills and contemporary linguistic theories.
12 Analysis of assessment and evaluation in foreign language teaching processes in terms of contemporary linguistic theories I: National and international exams.
13 Presentation and evaluation of research projects.
