19 Objective of the Course: Islamic sects generally divide up in two basic categoriesas apparent and esoteric. Alewiyyah/Bektashi tradition is formed within the esoteric tradition and is a secterian structere that has reached us by oral tradition. The history, formation, belief system, the religious/cultural identity it formes, basic sources, its institutions and its demands in modern time is dealt with in this course.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 The phenomenon of sects in the Islamic tradition and to understand its effects on the formation of the Islamic culture.;
2 To grasp the apparent and esoteric faces of the Islamic sect culture.;
3 To apprehend the course of the formation of esoteric sects in Islamic culture. ;
4 Understanding the place of Anatolian Alewiyya within esoteric sect tradition.;
5 Comprehending the form the Alawi sect had before it became a sect, the effect the periods political events had on the formation of religious culture.;
6 The emergence and development of Alawi sect as a distinct one in the history.;
7 Differentiation between Alawi/Baktashi, analysis of common and different areas.;
8 The learningof basic institutions of Alawi religion conception, cem, semah, dede;
9 The transformation of Alawi sect to modern and known, its entrance into the public area is apprehended.;
10 The basic problems of Alawits today, the Alawih workshops and processes are understood.;

1 The Islamic sect heritage, basic sources, concepts, problems.
2 Apparent and esoteric Islamic sects.
3 The history of Alawiyyah/Bektashi.
4 Understanding the place of Anatolian Alewiyya within esoteric sect tradition.
5 Comprehending the form the Alawi sect had before it became a sect, the effect the periods political events had on the formation of religious culture.
6 The emergence and development of Alawi sect as a distinct one in the history.
7 Differentiation between Alawi/Baktashi, analysis of common and different areas.
8 The learningof basic institutions of Alawi religion conception, cem, semah, dede…..
9 The transformation of Alawi sect to modern and known, its entrance into the public area is apprehended.
10 The basic problems of Alawits today, the Alawih workshops and processes are understood.
11 Alawiyyah during repuclic period, the entrance of Alawiyyah into the public.
12 Efforts to define Alawiyyah identity in modern times.
13 The process known as Alevi expansion in the public opnion and the first time Alawis are addressed during the whole preiod of the repuclic
14 Alawi community today, its expectations, hopes, disappointments, new road maps.
