General Description

Brief History
Bursa Uludag University, Engineering Faculty, Textile Engineering Department was established and begun education in 1976 as the second textile engineering department of Turkey. Up to now, over 3000 undergraduate, and over 250 graduate students have been graduated from the department.

Qualification Awarded
Education in the department is based on 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits. When all the requirements of the program are completed successfully, the student is qualified and the bachelor degree is given by the department.

Specific Admission Requirements
The candidates have to have a high school or an equal degree, and pass the university entrance exam carried out in Turkey. Generally, the degree can be obtained in 4 years. One year English study at the first year is obligatory for all students. The English courses are organised by School of Foreign Language of Bursa Uludag University. Students are directly accepted by the department when they pass the English exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain textile engineering degree from the department, the students have to complete compulsory and elective courses (total in 240 ECTS) and must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Profile of The Programme
The educational objectives of the Textile Engineering Department are given below:
1. Our graduates take part in textile production processes with their basic engineering infrastructure and provide solutions to textile engineering problems.
2. Our graduates design and apply textile products, processes or systems, taking into account economic, technological and environmental limitations.
3. Our graduates work in industrial organizations, R&D centers or academic institutions in line with the needs of society and industry, and aim for a successful career.
In the textile engineering department´s education curriculum, fundamental science and engineering courses and the courses intended to have textile engineering knowledge and ability are given in the first four semesters. In 2011, group elective courses have been added to the textile engineering department´s education curriculum in order to provide students to improve themselves in the field of interest in the profession. In this system, students choose one of the group elective courses entitled "Fiber Technology and Application of Technical Textiles," "Yarn-fabric Technology and Design," "Textile Finishing, Biotechnology and Ecology" or "Clothing Technology" at the end of the fourth semester. Starting from the fifth semester, each semester, they take two courses. Besides these courses, students take other elective courses starting from the 6th semester. In respect of 7th semester, social elective courses have been added to the program for the personal development of students. There are also project courses in the 6th, 7th and 8th semesters where students can work under the supervision of faculty members in their field of interest.
In our department, 30% of the courses have been given in English since 2014.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The working areas of the graduates can be listed as production sectors, consulting companies, company representatives, marketing and some public company businesses.

Access to Further Studies
The students who have completed all the degree requirements of undergraduate study and gotten a proper grade from ALES exam (graduate record and academia entrance exam) and have a sufficient level of foreign language can move forward in the graduate study. Students with a GPA of over 3.00 can attend to the integrated doctoral program.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
All students have to register for the courses at the beginning of each semester and attend at least 70% of the classes and 80% of their practices/labs in order to be allowed to join the exams of the courses. Students are being subjected to at least one midterm and one final exam, and the final grade of the courses is the weighed average of these exams. The midterm exam either can be one class exam or additionally the calculated grade of quizzes, homeworks, laboratory quizzes due to their impact factors. All exams are evaluated considering the highest point of 100. Getting 50 points from the midterm exams is mandatory. The students are considered successful if they get AA, BA, BB, CB or CC letter grades. DC and DD are considered as conditional passing grades, and to be successful from these courses the GPA of the student have to be at least 2.00 Those students having FD or FF letter mark from any course have to take the course again.

Graduation Requirements
All the students have to pass from all courses (equivalent to 240 ECTS), get at least 2.0 GPA out of 4.0, and complete their senior project and internships in order to complete the degree successfully.

Facilities
The academic staff of Bursa Uludag University Textile Engineering Department consists of 17 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 4 teaching and research assistants, and 1 technical staff.
The department is located in Gorukle Campus of Bursa Uludag University. Administration and academic staff offices are located in the main engineering building. In the building of textile laboratories, offices for graduate student and research assistants, Fiber, Textile Chemistry, Physical Analyses, Chemical Analyses, Yarn Technology, Knitting Technology, Weaving Technology, Finishing Technology, and Apparel Technology laboratories are located.
