General Description
1
Brief History
The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1983. In the Department, around 30 academic staff is present including 13 professors, 7 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 3 Dr Research Asistant, and 1 research assistants. MSc program takes between two to three years to complete. Graduates with any BSc degree meeting U.Ü Postgraduate Education requirements specified in the regulation can enter one of the MSc programmes in Chemistry (e.g. Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry). Candidates who can prepare and defend a thesis successfully obtain a degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Chemistry. As part of our mission we aim to train postgraduates (MSc) that have the capacity to use project related knowledge and skills effectively for research and to lead the transformation of science and technology for the benefit of society.
2
Qualification Awarded
The MSc in Chemistry degree is based on 120 ECTS credits of achievement.
3
Level of Qualification
Second Cycle
4
Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must satisfy the following qualifications specified in the U.Ü Graduate Education requirements: 1-BSc degree 2-ALES score 3-Evidence of competence in the English language (certificates of UDS, KPDS, TOEFL, IELTS etc.)
5
Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
6
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain the MSc in Chemistry degree, students must accumulate minimum of 60 ECTS credits from all of the theoretical courses, which should be passed with at least 70 point over 100. In addition, a thesis with 60 ECTS must be prepared and defended in front of the jury.
7
Profile of The Programme
MSc program takes between two to three years to complete. To advance knowledge and skills compulsory and optional courses with 60 ECTS should be successfully completed. In the second/third year, student is expected to develop a thesis project with the help of the thesis advisor and to carry out the project-orientated practical works. Students that have successfully prepared and defended their thesis with 60 ECTS get MSc degree. Successful candidates can enter the PhD programs. The aim of the MSc program is to provide the following: surveying the literature over a specific field, carrying out project-related experimental works, evaluating experimental results and writing a scientific report.
