Plant Protection
General Description

Brief History
The Department of Plant Protection was established in 1981.as a part of Agricultural Faculty of Uludag University. The curriculum includes training and teaching activities at the departmental level offering BSc, MSc and PhD Programmes. Plant Protection Programme consists of two main disciplines, Entomology and Phytopathology. The Entomology subdivision is involved in research on the identification and biology of insect pests, mites and nematodes of agricultural crops as well as the development of sustainable control methods against them using integrated pest management. The Phytopathology subdivision focuses on biotic (fungi, viruses, bacteria, etc.) and abiotic factors that cause plant diseases and the alternative, novel ways of controlling them.
Plant Protection Programme is currently composed of 4 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor and 4 Research Assistants.

Qualification Awarded
Plant Protection Master´s Education Programme comprises a minimum of 120 ECTS credits and is considered as seventh stage degree system in higher education. The Master´s Degree in Plant Protection Programme is awarded to those graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
Bachelor´s degree in Plant Protection and Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES-Quantitative) score, which is determined by the Senate of Uludag University, is required. The scores of International Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or (Graduate Management Admission Test) GMAT and other exams which are recognized by Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) at the international level.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The graduate Programme students throughout their education a total of 21 credits (120 ECTS) is not less than a minimum of seven courses, a seminar and thesis work must succeed. The students of the Plant Protection Master´s Programme who meet the relevant requirements are awarded an MS degree. The course concerned in this note is to be successful, must be at least 70 out of 100.

Profile of The Programme
The aim of MSc Thesis, Department of Plant Protection Programme, the candidates have gained sufficient theoretical and application infrastructure, an important source of plant pests and diseases, research execution for solving the problems, evaluation, and to gain the ability to use.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. Master students should be able to: use knowledge for agricultural management about diseases, pests and weeds causing crop losses in agricultural production.
2. To apply theoretical information effectively for management of plant diseases and pests that cause economic loss in stored commodities.
3. To learn agricultural pesticides, their mechanisms of action, toxicology, alternatives to chemicals and use them in a safe, effective way.
4. To reach out local, regional and international problems in the field of plant protection, in order to analyze, and use their know-how to solve problems.
5. To pursue the recent developments and issues related to the Plant Protection science, and to monitor and implement in an appropriate manner.
6. To implement integrated management methods to achieve an integrated crop production.
7. To use natural enemies against diseases and pests, to diagnose new antagonistic microorganisms, for sustainable biological control.
8. To gain ability to do research and experimental work in the field of specialization and to evaluate and interprets the data obtained Statistically.
9. To convert research and project results into a thesis and publish them at the national and international scientific publications and conferences.
10. To resolve problems with cause-effect relationships in the learning process and assess the information from the problem-specific solutions.
11. To respect vocational, social and ethical values with the necessary scientific formation takes place as team work, and need to assume individual responsibility.
12. To be able to use Turkish language in written and oral scientific communication effectively, monitor and communicate with the field in terms of the international literature, at least in one of the foreign languages.

Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully pass all compulsory and elective courses on the Programme (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS). Those who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum will be granted Master´s Degree in Plant Protection Programme.
