General Description

Brief History
Map and Cadastre Technician Program at Gemlik Asım Kocabıyık Vocational School started training at 2005-2006 Academic Year.

Qualification Awarded
This program consists of two years of pre-Bsc and 120 hours of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). When the program is successfully completed and the program requirements are met, students can obtain an pre-Bsc degree in the field of Surveying.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have high school degree and also have a grade in YGS-1 (Transition to Higher Education Examination); or have the right to make transition to related departments of vocational schools on open admission.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to get pre-BSc degree at Survey and Cadastre Program, the total of compulsory and elective courses must be equivalent to 120 ECTS and fully succeeded. The general weighted average must be at least 2.0 over 4.00.

Profile of The Programme
The purpose of Survey and Cadastre Program is to train well-equipped, qualified staff to work in land planning and the creation of 3D city models, land registry and cadastre information system, infrastructure projects, urban information system applications, expropriation, property valuation, land consolidation, risk assessment and deformation measurement in natural, historic and engineering structures and infrastructures applications as a Survey and Cadastre Technician.

1. To analyze the main issues of Survey and Cadastre processes, having the ability of bringing solutions to the occupational problems analytically.
2. Having the ability and knowledge of using traditional and modern measurement instruments, and making rapid and precise measurement.
3. By having the knowledge of classical map drawing techniques, having the ability to use computer-aided map drawing and other CAD applications efficiently.
4. Having sufficient knowledge and application skill on issues related to property right such as cadastral studies, expropriation, land consolidation.
5. Having knowledge of map generation by photogrammetric and remote sensing methods.
6. Having knowledge of the next-generation surveying tools such as remote sensing, GPS (Global positioning system) and having the ability of applying in these fields.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of Surveying and Cadastre; within the scope of their skills; are employed in private and public sectors executing any kind of planning, conducting, presenting map systems, generating projects by the maps and land applications. Graduates can be employed according to KPSS (public personnel election examination) exam result in public institutions such as directorates linked to General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, municipalities, City Directorates of Environment and Urban Planning, city overseers of highways of Turkish Republic, City authority of Forestry and Water, foundations. Also they can find a work in private sector such as private companies, bank offices, etc.

Access to Further Studies
Graduate students having successfully completed their pre-Bsc degree can apply to vertical transmission to a Bsc degree program in departments of “Survey Engineering”, ”Geomatic Engineering ”, “Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering” in condition that they have degree at DGS (Vertical Passage Exam) performed by OSYM (Student Election and Placement Center).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student must have attended at least 70 % of the lessons and 80 % of the practice so that they can enter final exams. Students must have for each school subject at least 1 mid-term visa exam and mid-term final exam. Mid-term visa exam has an influence of 50 % and mid-term final exam of 50 % to calculate the final grade. (Mid-term visa exam grade can be calculated through the points of homework, lab exam, quiz, etc..). All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. Students must have at least 30 points out of 100 at mid-term final exam. Students are considered successful when they get AA, BA, BB, CB, and CC on the exams. DC and DD are considered conditionally successful grade. A student must have, at least, an accumulative grade point average of 2.0 to be considered successful at a subject of which they get DC and DD grades.

Graduation Requirements
In order to complete a program successfully, students must have succeeded the courses included in the program with 120 AKTS , which is equal to ,at least, an accumulative grade point average of 2.0 over 4.00

Facilities
In our program, there is one lecturer at Gemlik Asım Kocabıyık Vocational School. Our need for academic staff is met with the support of Iznik Vocational School and the Faculty of Agriculture. Our practice courses are carried out with a limited number of technical equipment and laboratory facilities.
