Music - Turkish Music and Ethnomusicology
General Description
B.U.U. State Conservatory was founded in 1998, and after the preparatory units and undergraduate programs, master of Music programs were provided at the Institute of Social Sciences since 2003. In 2014, the undergraduate program of the Turkish Music have been opened and Turkish Music Theory and Ethnomusicology master program in the Music Department in 2015 and the Turkish Music doctoral program in 2021 began its educational studies.
Doctorate program for Music Department is under the system of third cycle with its 180-240 ECTS. When the program qualifications are attained for the whole program a Doctorate degree is gained in Music (Turkish Music).

Specific Admission Requirements
Students who graduated from Turkish music, instrument, music theory, composition, ethnomusicology, music education undergraduated or master programs can apply to the program. The candidates must have at least 60 scientific evaluation points in the entrance exam. Candidates must have a minimum ALES (verbal) score of 55 and a sufficient foreign language score (at least 55 points from YDS/YÖKDİL exams or an equivalent score from international language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM).
A TÖMER certificate for Turkish language is required for the acceptance of foreign students (except the ones who studied at a school in Turkey).

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To get a Doctorate degree (for Turkish Music) at the Music, the student has to complete all the obligatory and elective courses successfully with 53 ECTS (27 credit ) and has to get 75 points over 100 for all over courses. The students who pass the proficiency exam and who succesfully present and defend the thesis they have prepared in front of a selected jury selected are at the stage of completing the program are awarded the Music Department Turkish Music Program Doctorate diploma.

Müzik Anasanat Dalı Türk Müziği doktora programının amacı; alanına ilişkin kazandığı bilgi ve becerileri ulusal ve uluslararası bilimsel, sanatsal ortamlarda kullanabilen, bilimsel araştırma yöntem ve tekniklerinde yetkin, ulusal değerlerle küresel değerleri bağdaştırabilen araştırmacılar yetiştirmektir.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of program can work as lecturers in various institutions and organizations or in various higher education institutions that provide education in their field, depending on their knowledge, skills and experience.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who succesfully complete the doctorate program can continue their education in post-doctoral or higher academic programs, provided that they have sufficient foreign language knowledge and experience.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Every student has to register for the courses at the begining of each semester and has to attend at least %70 of the theoretical lessons and %80 of the practice lessons in order to be able to take the final examinations of the term. They have to take at least one final examination.

Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the doctorate program, it is necessary to give all the courses in the program and a seminar, pass the proficiency exam and succesfully complete the thesis (240 ECTS).

In the Music Department Turkish Music doctoral program, education is provided with academicians who are experts in the courses they teach and it is possible to benefit from the experience and knowledge of these academicians and their archives when necessary. In addition, well-equipped library of the Conservatory can be used to conduct research and when necessary, to obtain the notes of the works to be performed.
The building of the Conservatory also has the facilities to carry the quqlity of education required by this program to the next level. The financial opprotunities provided by our university, both fort his building and its interior equipment, are the important advantages of this program.
