Brief History
As one of the oldest art education departments in Turkey, Uludag University, Art Education program has a strong academic and artistic tradition since 1973. Art Education program started academic year, 2011-2012, in its new building at Görükle Campus and is a part of Fine Arts Education Department.
Art education Master’s Program was opened in 1992-1993 academic year, and started accepting students. We are open to applications for our Master´s program for 2013-2014 Academic Year, and a total number of 5 students will be admitted upon meeting exam requirements as explained in the related section. Admission number will possibly be higher following years.

Degrees Awarded Students who complete 24 course credits (60 ECTS credits) and meet a GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0, and complete thesis requirements are awarded Master’s Degree (Master of Arts). Thesis title must be related to a subject in the field of art education, and must be successfully defended in front of thesis committee.

Second Cycle

Admission Requirements Admission requirements for graduate degree programs, including required ALES test scores, Language test scores, GPA score, and Jury interview score and their weighed scores are determined by Uludag University Graduate School of Education Senate. Specified minumum requirements for admission are as followed: ALES Scores: 55 and higher (in any section of the test categories) › Weigh on total success score is 50% Foreign Languge Score (KPDS, UDS, UUDS): 50 and higher › Weigh on total success score is 15% Undergraduate GPA › Weigh on total success score is 15% Interview Score › Weigh on total success score is 20% Following the interview, candidates are ranked based on their Total success scores; specified number of students are admitted as determined by the department. Remaining students are ranked as runner-up candidates in case any candidate do not register for the program. In case the total success scores are equal, ALES scores are used to determine success score for admission. Final results are approved by Graduate School of Education Administration Committee, and announced by the Dean’s Office.

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Degree Qualification Requirements To earn Master’s degree in the field of art education, students must meet the following requirements: For the first semester: 2 foundational, and 3 elective courses; For the second semester: 2 foundational and 3 elective courses; Must be taken and successfully completed by the student. In addition student must complete two seminar courses; one before taking thesis proposal defense, and one during thesis. Student must also take a “Major-field experience course of study” class during thesis phase. Total required number of credits must be 24 or higher during two semesters.

Program Profile
Our program aims to prepare art educators who have knowledge of fine arts in both theory and practise; who are able to use this knowledge in art production and processes; who have creative and critical thinking skills; who have aesthetical sensitivity and show this sensitivity toward their environments; and also are qualified in art education and pedagogy.
Art education graduate program (Master’s program) aims to prepare candidates who are productive in the field and share this knowledge in national and international professional platforms; who also involve and conduct scientific studies to contribute to the field; who are also qualified as academicians.
Our scope is to prepare qualified art educators for information age and for the new ages. We also aim to be a department which contributes to the body of knowledge in the field of art education; ever-growing; and examplary in teacher preparation with which to be proud of.
Our department also adapted a mission that involves preparing art teachers who show fidelity to principals of Atatürk and his revolutions; who have an understanding of concepts of national and universal identity; who show tolerance, have a sense of justice and democracy; professionally qualified; who have a sense of curiosity; be able to think analitically and critically; who have good communication skills; to have developed a positive self; creative; and finally highly qualified art educators.
