General Description

Brief History
Department of Archeology was established in 2005 in Bursa Uludağ University. Undergraduate, master and PhD. educations are still active in our department. 3 professor, 2 associate professor, 1 lecturer and 6 research assistants are working in our department. In the University our department assumes 2 research centers management. These are Mosaic Research Center AIEMA-TURKEY and The Research center of Archaeology.
Ph.D. education has been started in 2010.
Besides the environmental archaeology (Bithynia ve Mysia), basic classical archaeology, some lessons about underwater archaeology and ancient mosaics are given.

Specific Admission Requirements
1- Master of Arts Degree in Archaeology 2- Sufficient score in the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) (at least 55 out of 100. ALES certificate and the certificates, which have international validity, like GRE, GMAT etc. are sufficient. It is not demanded any score in ALES.) 3-Sufficient foreign language score (at least 55 for YDS and YÖKDİL in English, German languages, at least 55 for TOEFL IBT, and at least 134 for TOEFL CBT, and at least 453 for TOEFL PBT and the equivalent exams. Also it is demanded Turkish proficiency certificate and sufficient foreign language score in English, German, languages for foreign students (except the students who graduated in Turkey) 50% of ALES Score + 15% of CGPA + 15% of Foreign Language Score+ 20% of Interview: The candidates are ranged according to their total score after the evaluation and they are accepted according to starting with the highest score. For foreign students: 50% of GPA + 50% Interview: The candidates are ranged according to their total score after the evaluation and they are accepted according to starting with the highest score.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To complete Doctorate Program the student have to be successful at least 240 ECTS from available courses. Additionally the students have to have at least 75 on the basis of 100. Finally the student has to prepare a thesis in an area which is relevant to own subject. The thesis has to be defended across the selected jury.

Profile of The Programme
Ph.D. program focuses on environmental archaeology, classical archaeology, underwater archaeology and ancient mosaics.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. Students will be able to distinguish and analyze stylistic and chronological problems of the archaeological data and material.
2. Students will be able to protect archaeological material and have it recognized by the public within the interrelation of tourism and environment.
3. Students will be able to register archaeological data within the visual and verbal framework also with the help of digital documentation sources.
4. Students will gain technical skills about underwater archaeology.
5. Students will be able to use various disciplines in order to solve or discuss a problem concerning archaeology.
6. Students will be able to develop a project or take a responsibility at field (i.e., excavation and survey).
7. Students will have a notion about Ancient Anatolian Mosaics, iconography, archaeological methods and technics and chronology.
8. Students will be able to use literature about Archaeology.
9. Students will be able to be aware of the professional ethical responsibilities.
10. Students will be able to make independent decisions and work independently during the analysis of the archeological problems.
11. Drawing architectural plans profiles and valuate them.
12. Ability for using software such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, autoCAD, Freehand, and netCAD.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduate who completes the Ph.D. education successfully may work as academic personnel in the universities, or as archaeologist in the local municipal museums, or as archaeologist in private/state museums, or as archaeologist in the Ministry of Culture.

Access to Further Studies
The Ph.D. holders can apply both in inland and abroad for academic positions and for the positions as connoisseur at research centers of public institutions.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In Doctorate Program, each student must enroll to the lessons and since he sits for a final examination, he must attend at least 70% of the courses. Students must take at least one exam at the end of the semester. Examination is evaluated on the basis of 100. Students cumulative grade point average has to be at least 75 to be successful from Doctorate Program. Students, who get one of AA, BA, BB, or CB letter marks, are to be succeeding at the available courses.

Graduation Requirements
Students must succeed in all courses (equivalent to 180-240 ECTS), the proficiency test, succeed in the professional education courses, publish an article in a editorial board and must complete their thesis to graduate from the programme successfully.
