19 Objective of the Course: To learn about the formation of Islamic sects, are the most prosperous and colourful field of the Islamic culture, the causes, topics discussed in early Islamic society and their contribution to sect/ecole sistems. To provide the student with knowledge about sects that stil exists and have communities, about their sect/belief structure, how they are scattered, religious/cultural activities, expansion efforts and about the various religiousness profiles formed by different sects.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 The phenomenon of sects in Islam and other religions is apprehended.; ;
2 Knowledge about the reasons for the formations of sects in Islamic culture and the basic concepts is acquired.; ;
3 The contribution of sects to the Islamic idea system;
4 Sect/religion relation and the basic functions of sect from the viewpoint of culture of religion is known. ; ;
5 Sect/politics relations, cultural continuousness, global priciples, differences between local considerations is comprehended. ; ;
6 The different religiousness models that the sects provide is discussed and learned. ; ;
7 The belief, statistical and geographical conditions of sects having communities is learned. ; ;
8 The expansion efforts of Islamic sects and their cultural and literal efforts in modern time is grasped. ; ;
9 The effects of sects in modern political events are discussed and learned.; ;
10 The association of secterian identity and local belongness, the religious, sociala and political structures formed in this framework is discussed and apprehended. ; ;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 The place and function of the sect in religious culture.
2 The problems discussed in early Islamic society, the sociological transformation of the Islamic society.
3 The external and internal causes to the formation of sects in Islamic culture.
4 The first groups and opinions emerged during sects formation and the Harici sect.
5 The effects of the Harici sect, to be harici in early Islamic society.
6 Different religion and religiousness conceptions formed within the Islamic culture, Salafi and Wahhabi
7 The historical development of Shia, Suni-Shia separation, Islamic political theories, the separation of Shia from the main body.
8 Shia in Islamic tradition, terminology, the Zaydiyya and Imamiyya sects.
9 Islamic sects with esoteric characteristisc, Ismailiyya
10 Nusayriyya and Durziyya.
11 Anatolian Alewiyyah and Baktashi sect.
12 Anatolian Alewiyyah and Baktashi sect.
13 Kadiyaniyyah and Bahaism
14 Sects in the modern world, secterian identity.
