19 Objective of the Course: The objective of this course is to emphasize the relation between language and music by considering the structure and pronunciation of Turkish language and to create school music with the right consonance between lyrics and music.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to explain key features of Turkish language structure.;
2 To be able to explain elements of rhythm and beat in accordance with the properties of Turkish pronunciation.;
3 To be able to analyze rhythmic and melodic structure of a melody from the musical point of view.;
4 To be able to understand the meaning and etymology of the word prosody and to identify good or bad applications in educational music.;
5 To be able to analyze school songs from the aspect of prosody. ;
6 To be able to analyze a given poem from the rhythmic and melodic aspects. ;
7 To be able to compose a perfectly balanced school song from the rhythmic, melodic and semantic aspects.;
8 To be able to contribute to educational music literature by composing balanced pieces focusing on their prosodic correctness.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Introduction to Prosody in Educational Music course. Definition, contents, ways of instruction, methods of assessment and evaluation.
2 What is a language, what is sound? Sound formation in a language, sound and speech physiology.
3 Sound presence in Turkish. Speaking and singing.
4 What is prosody? Definition, its etymology and applications from different angles.
5 Relationship between speech language and music language. Properties of Suzuki methods for teaching in music.
6 Music of language and properties of sound: pitch, duration, intensity and timbre.
7 Accents, tone and tonation from the musical and phonetic perspectives.
8 Rhythm and its appications in verbal language and music language.
9 Importance of prosody in music education programs.
10 Analysis of school songs with respect to rhythmic accordance.
11 Analysis of school songs with respect to accordance of accents.
12 Analysis of school songs with respect to accordance of expression.
13 Composition of example school songs with rhythmic accordance and accordance in accents and expression.
14 Applied study with created examples within a concert.
