19 Objective of the Course: To investigate the emergence of classical Arabic poetry, the ideas put forward about it and discussions and the major poets of each period beginning with the first and second Jahilliya including also Islamic periods, and gain the ability of making evaluation about these topics
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To have an idea and information about the situation of the poetry in the first Jahilliya period of Arab society;
2 To gain the ability of dealing and investigating the uncertainty about the presence of poetry in that period;
3 To provide the understanding of the second Jahilliya period’s importance in the terms of Arabic poetry ;
4 To deal and evaluate the ideas and claims about the beginning of the maturation process of poetry in terms of meter and rhyme in the second Jahilliya period.;
5 To learn the main themes of poetry of the second Jahilliya period and to evaluate the Arab society politically, socially and culturally in the light of these themes;
6 To know the major great poets grown in this period and to discuss and evaluate them;
7 To know the major poems of that period and to analyse critically the thesis about the arising of first examples of poetry ;
8 To learn the Muallakas and their writers from original sources and to analyse the claims put forward about them and making inferences about them;
9 To evaluate critically the discusses occurring around the historical truthfulness of the Jahilliya poetry;
10 To have information and make observation about the points that differs Islamic period poetry from Jahilliya period poetry;
