19 Objective of the Course: In this course, students will gain theoretical knowledge of polyphonic musical dictation as well as the ability to perceive and identify polyphonic textures, to perform horizontal and vertical (melody – chord) dictation, to perform musical analysis, to identify polyrhythmic structures and to analyze and perform sight reading on works written in modern music notation. In addition, students will be equipped with methods and techniques for teaching ear training in advanced level.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development By understanding the relationships between sounds Gaining the skills of hearing, reading and writing as well as polyphonic dictation and analysis and using these skills in the profession.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to perform advanced polyphonic dictation and solfege in all major – minor tonalities.;
2 To be able to dictate, analyze and compose advanced polyphonic textures in modal music.;
3 To be able to perform advanced composition in two, three or four sounds. ;
4 To be able to dictate, analyze and compose polyphonic textures with tonal and quad-harmonic system chords using three, four and five sounds;
5 To be able to dictate and analyze musical works where contemporary composition techniques have been used.;
6 To be able to perform solfege, dictation and rhythmic reading exercises in different keys.;
7 To have an advanced level of sight reading ability and to be able to accompany with the piano.;
8 To be able to analyze polyphonic melodies with respect to their forms and to be able to write polyphonic textures from monophonic melodies in similar forms (solfege or teaching music).;
9 To become knowledgeable in methods and techniques of teaching advanced ear training. ;
10 To be able to perform creative studies, dictation and analysis of polyphonic music written in modern musical notation.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Objectives of the course and teaching materials. Pre-assessment to evaluate readiness for the course.
2 Dictation exercises in various tonalities and mixed measures.
3 Modal music and its dictation, analysis and composition.
4 Chords with three, four and five sounds and their analysis.
5 Dictation in two or three sounds.
6 Atonality and studies on scales without a tone. Dictation, transposition and solfege in these scales.
7 Accompaniment of solfege pieces with the piano.
8 Methods and techniques of teaching advanced ear training.
9 Transposition by reading, writing and playing.
10 Studies to imrove sight reading ability. Reading, writing, analysis and composition of melodies with two, three and four sounds.
11 Analysis of harmony. Chords with five sounds.
12 Studies on modern notation techniques.
13 Solfege accompaniment with the piano. Analysis, writing and composition.
14 General revision. Writing-composing melodies for the purposes of teaching.
