19 Objective of the Course: To introduce students different types of vegetables grown in greenhouses and to teach how to grow the most cultivated vegetables in the greenhouses (theoretical and practical)
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development In greenhouses, more disease-pest problems are generally encountered due to reasons such as inadiquate ventilation and soil fatigue. The student will gain experience on phytosanitary problems encountered during greenhouse vegetable cultivation, thanks to this course.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to learn and apply how greenhouse vegetables are grown in the greenhouse;
2 To be able to explain the botanical characteristics and climate requirements of greenhouse vegetables;
3 To be able to do cultural maintenance of greenhouse vegetables;
4 To calculate the number of seedlings and seed amount required for a decare greenhouse;
5 To be able to recognize and use the necessary tools and equipment for growing greenhouse vegetables and seeds;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Most widely grown vegetables in the greenhouses in Turkey and its reasons Demonstration of vegetable species in our greenhouse
2 Greenhouse tomato cultivation Introducing some vegetable seeds to students
3 Greenhouse tomato cultivation (continued) Cleaning and sorting of standard seeds harvested in our application greenhouse
4 Cucumber cultivation in greenhouse To make students carry out germination studies with vegetable seeds
5 Cucumber cultivation in greenhouse (cont.) Testing germination times of different vegetable seeds in incubator
6 Greenhouse pepper cultivation Demonstration of grafting of cucumber seedlings on the pumpkin we grow from seed
7 Eggplant growing in greenhouse Technical visit (seedling company visit)
8 Melon-watermelon cultivation in greenhouse Vegetable harvest in our greenhouse
9 Squash cultivation in greenhouse Cultural practices in our greenhouse
10 Growing lettuce in greenhouse Sowing lettuce seeds into viols
11 Greenhouse bean cultivation Tomato and pepper seed broadcast sowing
