19 Objective of the Course: To be able to comprehend the basic biochemistry knowledge including biological molecules, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, minerals, and their classification, physical and chemical properties and functions.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Being able to comprehend the metabolic events that are fundamental to the functioning of living organisms;
2 Identifying the carbohydrates, lipids and proteins that provide the energy needs of the organism and form the building blocks of cells;
3 To understand the properties, classification and functions of enzymes and minerals, to evaluate the defects that occur in the case of mineral deficiency and excess;
4 To be able to comprehend the information that will form the basis of other courses in Veterinary Biochemistry graduate education;
5 To be able to transfer the knowledge acquired on basic biochemistry subjects in written and oral presentation;

1 The definition and scope of Biochemistry ,biological function and importance of water, solutions and features
2 Carbohydrates, general description, classification, formulations,D and L isomers
3 Asymmetric carbon atoms, optical activity, hemiacetal structure, specific rotation, Osazon formation, the effect of monosaccharides on the acid and alkali, reduction and oxidation products of sugars
4 Monosaccharides, disaccharides, and their properties, maltose and trehalose-type bonds, homo and heteropolysaccharides,
5 Description and characteristics of the lipids, classification, saturated, unsaturated and essential fatty acids, chemical and physical properties
6 Carrying glycerol lipids, neutral fats, physical and chemical characteristics
7 Phosphoglycerides, alcohols and waxes, terpenes, carotinoids, bile acids
8 Definition and importance of proteins, amino acids and their classification and formulas.
9 Physical properties of amino acids, bipolar nature, chemical reactions, essential amino acids
10 Peptide bond formation, protein molecule structure, physical and chemical properties of proteins, proteins classified according to their role in the body
11 Nucleic acids, DNA and RNA structure, properties and types, kromoproteins, bile colored substances
12 Minerals, macrominerals, microelements, features, tasks, mineral deficiencies and disorders
13 Enzymes and their importance, structure and properties of enzymes, enzyme reaction mechanisms, enzyme nomenclature.
14 Classification of enzymes, factors affecting enzyme activity, the type of inhibition, allosteric enzymes, coenzymes
