19 Objective of the Course: This course initially observes basic concepts in literature of Turkısh Revolution, periods of Renaissance and Reform, process of Ottoman modernization. In addition, it analyses causes and results of World War I. Subsequently, this course examines the process of national independence war and the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in this period. Lastly, it stands out abolition of Sultanate and treaty of Laussane processes.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development To provide students at undergraduate and associate degrees with the necessary information and perspective to understand and make sense of the society and the world they live in.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To understand and evaluate transition from an Empire to a Nation State.;
2 To distinguish the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in organizing the national struggle. ;
3 To express motivations behind Mustafa Kemal’s political and military decisions.;
4 To analyse the development of the “national thesis.” ;
5 To be able to observe the continuities and the discontinuities between the institutions of Empire and the Republic.;
6 To comprehend the foundations of the Turkish modernization process in detail.;
7 To analyse the causes and results of The Great War.;
8 To conceive the impact of The Turkish Independence War on international politics. ;
