19 Objective of the Course: To raise awareness about language, linguistics and the articulation and use of English speech sounds
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The course contributes to content and pedagogical content knowledge development and helps the development of language teaching content.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Can tell the subject matter of linguistics and of the various subdisciplines.;
2 Can describe the design features of human language.;
3 Can explain the criteria used to classify English consonants and work out a consonant described along these criteria as well as describe one.;
4 Can explain the criteria used to classify English vowels and work out a pure vowel described along these criteria as well as describe one.;
5 Can describe the articulation of diphthongs and triphthongs.;
6 Can apply the minimal pair test.;
7 Can recognise a phonological process from written transcription.;
8 Can generate a phonological process according to the rule.;
9 Can identify weak forms of grammatical words.;
10 Can place primary word stress on the appropriate syllable.;
