19 Objective of the Course: Main purpose of the course is to evaluate renaissance and reform movements which occurred after the end of medieval period in Europe. The course also aims to evaluate the rise of monarchies and weaking ties of feodality in addition to explaining the price revolution, age of discoveries, rise of capitalism and its effect upon societies.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to grasp the problem of periodization of European history. ;
2 To be able to evaluate the socio-economic reasons behind the rise of European Civilization. ;
3 To be able to evaluate the impacts of european economic and social heritage in founding United States.;
4 To be able to interpret the formation of capitalism in Europe and the transformation it caused.;
5 To be able to evaluate the rise of protestantism as a third sect of Christianity.;
6 To be able to explain conflicts of christian sects in connection with the relationships of catholicism-protestantism and the European balance of powers.;
7 To be able to understand the formation of balance of powers in in Europe in sevennteenth Century. ;
8 To be able to explain the term of “the great divergence” and “the rise of the west”;
22 Course Content:

1 Beginning of Early Modern Era as a problem of periodization.
2 Samples from the thinkers and artists of renaissance period.
3 Age of exploration, historical background and their results.
4 Pioneers of Reformation
5 Impacts of printing upon the Reform movement.
6 Distribution of reformation, Luther, Calvin and Zwingli.
7 Rise of Protestantism in Europe and stance of Catholic Church.
8 Midterm and repeating course.
9 Start of thirty years war period and clash of the sects.
10 Peace of Westphalia and establishing balance of power in Europe.
11 Establisment of Absolutism in France and political and religious struggle in England for supremacy.
12 Orange dynasty in the Netherlands and political stuation in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Northern Europe.
13 Expansion of Capitalism and price revolution.
14 General remarks, questions and evaluations.
