Environmental Engineering
General Description
The Department of Environmental Engineering was established in 1991 within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, with the aim of graduating engineers that have the ability of applying the principles of engineering and science to protect and improve environmental quality. The first undergraduate students started education in 1992. In addition to the undergraduate programme, MSc (thesis and non-thesis) and PhD programmes have been accepting students since 1994 and 1995, respectively. The Department of Environmental Engineering organizes its programme based on the concepts of quality assurance and internationalization in order to graduate engineers who can meet the needs of the 21st century. Accordingly, 30% English language education was started in our department as of 2015-2016 academic year. One year foreign language preparatory programme is implemented. The department has been accredited by MÜDEK since 2012 and has the EUR-ACE label. Currently (2021) the number of undergraduate students in our department is 410 and 36 of them are foreign students. The number of graduated students from the department is 957 by February 2021.
The department is subject to the first stage degree system for 240 ECTS credits in Environmental Engineering area in higher education. On successful completion of the programme, graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
First Cycle
4
Specific Admission Requirements
The admission of students with a high school degree to the programme is made by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (YÖK). Students are also admitted to the department by the horizontal/vertical transitions in accordance with the “Uludağ University Regulation on Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education” and other relevant regulations. Admission and placement procedures for foreign students are carried out in accordance with “Bursa Uludağ University, Directive on the Admission of Students from Abroad” and Higher Education Council’s (YÖK) “Principles Regarding the Admission of Students from Abroad”.
5
Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
6
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to acquire Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, students are required to complete successfully all compulsory and elective courses in the syllabus (a minimum of 240 ECTS) and to have a minimum of 2.0/4.0 grade point average (GPA) and to complete internship.
7
Profile of The Programme
The aim of the Environmental Engineering Department is to focus on improving the quality of environment, to meet the needs of the society and industry with its education, research and services at an international level and to be an exemplary department with its scientific studies, graduates and activities.
In order to gain environmental engineering profession to the students, basic sciences and engineering courses, professional compulsory and elective courses including design studies are given and professional projects are carried out. In addition, learning outcomes are consolidated by laboratory studies, technical visits and seminars. Students are required to complete 55 days of internship. 40 days of internship includes management practices, whereas 15 days includes laboratory practices.
Basic sciences and basic engineering courses are mainly included in the 1st and 2nd grade, while professional compulsory and elective courses are predominant in the 3rd and 4th grade. General compulsory courses (Ataturk´s Principals and History of Revolutions I-II, Foreign Language I-II, Turkish Language I-II) are taught in the 1st grade. Approximately 25% of the courses taken during undergraduate education are elective and 75% are compulsory courses.
Environmental Engineering Department allows its students to study abroad and accept students from other universities within the Erasmus programme through bilateral agreements with various universities in Europe. It is also possible to exchange students and academic staff with the universities of other countries through Mevlana Exchange Programme. Furthermore, Farabi Exchange Programme which aims to exchange the students and academic staff between our department and other universities within the country has been in effect since 2009-2010 academic year.
