Automotive Body and Surface Treatment Technologies
General Description
1
Brief History
The Automotive Body and Surface Treatment Technologies Program was established in 2025 within Bursa Uludağ University Yenişehir İbrahim Orhan Vocational School. It is a two-year (four semesters, 120 ECTS) full-time associate degree program taught in Turkish. The vocational school started education in the 1998-1999 academic year and operates in its building with 3,071 m² of indoor space built by Orhan Holding. Students are placed in the program with their TYT score in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS).
The program was opened to meet the need for qualified technicians in vehicle body manufacturing, collision repair, painting and surface treatment in the automotive sector. The curriculum applied from the 2026-2027 academic year has been prepared according to the 3+1 vocational education model of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In the first three semesters, vocational courses such as engine technology, power transmission, materials technology, technical drawing, measurement and inspection, basic manufacturing processes, painting techniques and welding technology are taught together with compulsory computer-aided drawing, design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) courses and Vocational Foreign Language. In the fourth semester, students complete the Vocational Training in the Workplace course (16 ECTS) in companies of the sector.
In addition to the full-time teaching staff of the program, academic staff of the vocational school from related fields also contribute to the courses.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can work in the public and private sectors in automotive body manufacturing, collision repair, painting and surface treatment. The main employment areas are the body, welding and paint lines of automotive manufacturers; supplier companies in sheet metal forming, tooling and surface coating; bus, truck and bodywork manufacturers; body and paint departments of authorized services; independent body shops and collision repair workshops; claims departments of insurance companies and loss adjuster offices; and companies that produce and sell automotive paint and surface treatment products. In these areas, graduates carry out body repair, welding, painting and surface preparation, damage assessment and repair costing, quality control, production planning, CAD/CAM applications and after-sales technical support. They can be appointed to technician positions in public institutions through the KPSS examination and, after gaining sufficient experience, establish their own body shops or service businesses.
10
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully complete the program can transfer to undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM. Graduates can choose the undergraduate programs that the DGS Guide lists as open to this program, as well as programs open to all associate degree graduates, such as Business Administration, Economics and Public Administration. The current list of programs available for transfer is announced each year in the DGS Guide published by ÖSYM.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and at least 80% of practical courses. At least one midterm examination is held for each course; assignments, practical work, projects and quizzes may also be evaluated as in-semester work. The contribution of in-semester work to the raw success grade is at most 40%, and the contribution of the final or make-up examination is 60%. All examinations and assignments are graded out of 100 points. To pass a course, students must score at least 50 points in the final or make-up examination (YSSL) and have a raw success grade of at least 50 (HBAS). The letter grades of students who meet these conditions are determined by the relative grading system in courses with 20 or more students. AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are passing grades, DC and DD are conditional passing grades, and FD and FF are failing grades. Conditional passing grades are considered passing for students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00. Students who are entitled to take the final examination but do not take it or fail may take the make-up examination. Students with an accepted excuse are given a make-up exam for the midterm, and students with at most two courses left for graduation are given an additional examination under the conditions stated in the regulation. The internship is graded on the basis of the student´s applied training report (40%), the employer´s report (20%) and the evaluation of the applied training commission (40%); students scoring at least 65 points pass.
12
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must pass all compulsory courses and the required number of elective courses in their curriculum, earn at least 120 ECTS credits, have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and successfully complete the compulsory internship (Internship, 6 ECTS) and the Vocational Training in the Workplace course (16 ECTS). Graduation is finalized by the decision of the Vocational School Administrative Board after review by the Graduation Commission.
