İllumination Miniature and Marbiling Main Art Branch

Brief History
The Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, which was established in 2021 within the Uludağ University Faculty of Fine Arts, has been planned as five main art branches: Art of Book Illumination-Miniature Painting and Marbling, Islamic Calligraphy, Binding, Tile and Tile Repair, Conservation and Repair of Portable Cultural Heritage. The department, which has Art of Book Illumination-Miniature Painting and Marbling and Islamic Calligraphy Main Art Branches active, started education in the 2022-2023 academic year by taking 19 students to the Art of Book Illumination-Miniature Painting and Marbling Department undergraduate program.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students are admitted to the Traditional Turkish Arts Department with a Special Talent Examination. Candidates who want to apply to this program must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have received sufficient points from the University Selection Examination.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (total of 240 ECTS) in the Traditional Turkish Arts Department´s curriculum and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 are entitled to receive a diploma.

Profile of The Programme
The Department of Traditional Turkish Arts started to teach in the undergraduate program with the Illumination-Miniature and Marbling Department in the 2022-2023 academic year, and the Calligraphy Department continues its preparations to admit students in the 2022-2023 academic year. In our department, which accepts students with a two-stage special talent exam, many cultural courses are given in addition to basic art education, applied/theoretical courses related to main art branches, and theoretical courses related to traditional arts. The Department of Traditional Turkish Arts has gained the ability to see and perceive by taking art formation, has assimilated the main principles of traditional arts and can bring contemporary and original approaches to art based on these, has a vision, can think interdisciplinary and can develop their designs in this direction, carry the qualities of an artist, as well as artistic productions. It aims to train artists who aim to represent our traditional arts at the highest levels through postgraduate studies.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. Recognizes the art of book illumination, miniature paiinting, marbling and Islamic calligraphy, which are included in the traditional Turkish arts; can make original designs and applications related to these arts.
2. Can do interdisciplinary studies by combining the basic art education gains with the aesthetic features and principles of our traditional arts.
3. Can produce works by learning the philosophical basis on which traditional arts are based.
4. Learns the classical rules of traditional arts and can create original works in the classical way.
5. Can produce contemporary and innovative works based on traditional arts.
6. Have the knowledge and skills needed in the process of creating an original art product related to the field.
7. Have the ability to know, recognize and analyze the problems that may be encountered in the process of producing a work of art.
8. Can make a synthesis by combining Turkish culture with today's possibilities and demands.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of this program; They have the opportunity to work in the fields of art in the public or private sector. As artists, they can continue their art in their own workshops and exhibit their works. They can provide consultancy and expertise in various art organizations. They can work as conservators in manuscript libraries affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and they can act as consultants. They can work as designer in design firms. In addition to the undergraduate qualification, they can complete the Pedagogical Formation program and work as a teacher in private or public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. They can teach in private art courses. They can pursue an academic career by turning to graduate education.

Access to Further Studies
Traditional Turkish Arts Department still provides education/training at the undergraduate level.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to follow at least %70 of theoretical courses, %80 of practical courses for the final exam. At least one midterm and one final exam are scheduled for each course. The contribution of mid-term examination to success grade is %40, while the contribution of final exam is % 60 ( Homework and workshops may be considered as a testing tool on midterm and final examinations.). All exams are assessed out of 100 points. Final exam are required to obtain at least 50 points. Student has received one of AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, letter grades, is considered successful from the course. DC and DD notes are a conditional success grade. Student’s overall GPA must be at least 2.0 to be successful in a course where the student receives DC or DD grade.

Graduation Requirements
To complete the Program successfully, students should pass in all the courses in the program ( 240 ECTS ), obtain at least 2.0 out of 4.0 CGPA .

Facilities
1 Assist. Prof., 1 Lecturer Dr., 4 Lecturer are working full-time in the teaching staff of the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts.
