Alternative Dispute Resolution Interdisciplinary Master's Program with Thesis
General Description
Brief History
The Department of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within the Institute of Social Sciences has been operating since the 2018 2019 academic year. The program is based on a tripartite agreement with The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the Department of Alternative Solutions of the Ministry of Justice. The Department of Alternative Dispute Resolution has courses based on Arbitration, Mediation, Expertise and Conciliation.
Qualification Awarded
This department, in the Master`s Degree program in the Department of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within Higher Education, is subject to third-phase degree system of ECTS credit of between 90- 120. Upon the successful completion and fulfillment of the requirements of the program, the Masters Degree is granted in the Field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Specific Admission Requirements
1- To be graduated from the Faculty of Law or the four-year faculty (predominantly with the condition of having taken law courses). 2- Candidates should have the required score from the postgraduate education entrance exam (PEEE) valid for 5 years and the equiponderant score should be 55 the minimum. The PEEE score document and internationally accepted documents (GRE, GMAT etc.) are required for foreign students without any score clause. 3- PEEE 50% + UNDERGRADUATE SUCCESS AVARAGE 20% + WRITTEN/INTERVIEW 30% = Candidates are ranked according to the weighted total score that they have earned from the general assessment and students are admitted according to the quota starting with the candidate with the highest score (Minimum score of 65 must be obtained for a passing grade).
Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The students who take 21 credit courses the least or 28 credit course the most out of the offered courses (Annually 24 credits for the course with a thesis), and who successfully complete the program by getting at least 70% out of 100%, and who successfully defend their thesis before a selected jury are granted the Master`s Degree.
Profile of The Programme
The members of the department have devoted their selves to educate patriotic individuals who have global concerns, equipped with modern knowledge and culture; have abilities in communicating, researching, analyzing, coping with the problems, have leadership features, making research and have a duty to transfer the findings to the people in global standards. In this sense, the students are provided with the necessary abilities for their carrier plans both by compulsory and selective courses.

1. Comprehension of the basic philosophical and theoretical foundations of law, its role in contemporary societies and its relationship with other disciplines
2. Acquisition of the ability of the conceptual analysis, interpretation and evaluation of legal norms
3. Acquirement of the techniques of legal reasoning and argument
4. Identification of legal problems in jurisprudence and in practice and the application of knowledge of legal rules to the solution of legal problems
5. Awareness of the development of international law and its institutions, and legislative changes in other countries, in particular in European countries, from a comparative law perspective.
6. Committed to the principle of rule of law (Rechtsstaat) and the ideal of justice reflecting upon legal and social issues critically and creatively
7. Being sensitive to human rights violations, and informed on the results of ongoing proceedings in national and supranational courts
8. Developing international arbitration rules and negotiation techniques
9. Learning the basic techniques and mediation system of mediation and conciliation
10. To learn report writing techniques and legal system
11. Improving communication skills essential for a future legal career and developing a clear understanding of ethical and professional rules thereto
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of the Department of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) will be entitled to receive exemption from mediator training and mediation training conducted by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Justice- Department of Alternative Solutions in accordance with the agreements concluded with CIArb and the Ministry of Justice, as well as the opportunity to pursue an academic career. In addition, our successful graduates will be eligible for direct membership to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Access to Further Studies
Graduates, who have successfully completed master´s degree, providing at least minimum acceptable ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) score and have a sufficient command on a foreign language, may apply to PhD programmes in Turkey and abroad.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
BUU Senate decision taken by the Regulation of Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education Article 32 is applied.
Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, students are required to pass all the courses (equivalent of 90-120 ECTS) available in the program and successfully write and complete the thesis.

The Department of Alternative Dispute Resolution is supported by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and especially by the Faculty of Law and many other academic members who are experts in their fields. The language of the Master`s Degree program is Turkish. There is a library, a reading room and a computer lab available put to the use of the enrolled students. The library is at the service of the students with nearly 100 thousand printed books, 421 printed journals, nearly 90 thousand online sources and 33 computers. There is a refectory on the campus for students to eat their lunch, a cultural center and a gym as well.
