Integrated PhD Program in Civil Engineering
General Description
Bursa Uludağ University Civil Engineering Department was established by the Higher Education Council´s letter dated 24.11.1994 and numbered 2695. Doctoral education started in the 2013-2014 academic year.
Civil Engineering Graduate program is subjected to 180-240 ECTS credits in Doctorate education. The Doctorate (Ph.D.) Degree in Civil Engineering Graduate program is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
(1) Application requirements for the doctoral program are as follows: a) To have a bachelor´s degree (for integrated doctorate) or a thesis-based master´s degree. Candidates who have completed their bachelor´s degree or thesis-based master´s degree programs in foreign countries must also obtain an equivalence certificate from the Council of Higher Education.
b) For bachelor´s degree graduates, to have a minimum of 3 points or an equivalent undergraduate graduation grade point average out of 4.
c) Master´s degree graduates must have received at least 55 points from ALES, and undergraduate graduates must have received at least 80 standard full points in the score type of the program applied for. The Senate may increase the scores of ALES and exams accepted as equivalent to ALES by the Council of Higher Education.
ç) To have at least 55 points from YDS in a language other than their mother tongue, such as English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Persian, or an equivalent score from an international foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by the ÖSYM Board of Directors. The Senate decides to increase these minimum scores if necessary, depending on the characteristics of the programs to be entered.
d) The documents that candidates must provide if requested for application (reference letter, essay stating why they want to do a doctorate, international standard exams, etc.) are determined by the Senate at the beginning of each application period and stated in the announcement.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
(2) Evaluation and acceptance conditions are as follows:
a) Unless the Senate decides to rank the applicants according to the ALES score for the relevant application period, the ranking is made according to the joint evaluation of the ALES score, undergraduate and/or graduate grade point average and the interview result, not to be less than 50%. In this case, for applicants with a bachelor´s degree, the weights are 50% ALES score, 20% undergraduate grade, 30% interview grade; for applicants with a master´s degree, the ALES score is 50%, 10% undergraduate grade, 10% graduate grade and 30% interview; if it is decided not to seek a bachelor´s degree from applicants with a master´s degree, the graduate grade is taken into account with a weight of 20%. The score calculated for admission must be at least 70 points and the ranking is made accordingly.
b) In the interview, if requested, an oral evaluation is made by taking into account the candidate´s reference letter and the essay stating why they want to do a doctorate and their goals.
c) In the event of equal scores, in determining the priority among candidates; Preference is given to those who have a high ALES or equivalent exam score or undergraduate course grade point average, graduate course grade point average or foreign language grade, respectively. d) In fractional grades, five digits from the decimal point are taken into account.

Profile of The Programme
Graduates who successfully completed doctorate degree may apply to both in the same or related disciplines in higher education institutions at home or abroad to get a position in academic staff or to governmental R&D centers to get expert position.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The aim of the Bursa Uludağ University Civil Engineering Department PhD program is,
a) to train Civil Engineer Doctors who have the ability to conduct independent research in the relevant field, to analyze scientific events from a broad and deep perspective, to comment on them, and to reach new syntheses.
b) To develop the skills of doctoral candidates to develop new techniques using scientific methods and considering ethical values, to present their knowledge and experiences verbally and in writing, and to develop lifelong learning and teaching skills.
The department carries out postgraduate studies with its qualified academic staff and developing opportunities for this purpose.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In order to take the exams for courses taken in postgraduate programs; 70% attendance in theoretical courses and 80% attendance in practical courses are required. Students are subjected to at least 1 midterm and 1 final exam for each course. Exams are evaluated with scores out of 100. A minimum score of 75 is required to be successful. The letter grades and coefficient equivalents of the scores out of 100 are as follows:

Doktora programını başarıyla tamamlamak için -Yeterlilik Koşulları ve Kuralları- bölümünde açıklanan koşulları yerine getirilmesi ve konusuyla ilgili bir alanda hazırladığı tezi seçilmiş jüri önünde başarıyla savunması gerekmektedir.

The Department of Civil Engineering provides education with 20 faculty members in the Görükle Campus and the research areas of the department staff are spread over a wide range in the field of Civil Engineering. The department has a Vibration and Structure Technology and Hydraulics Laboratory to be used for both education and research.
