Brief History
The Department of Geography at Bursa Uludag University was established in 2011 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. With the start of the department´s staff structuring process (2016) and the provision of minimum conditions, and the acceptance of the file submitted to the Council of Higher Education for the purpose of recruiting undergraduate students, approval was given for the 2017-2018 Academic Year for student recruitment. The Department of Geography consists of the following branches: Human and Economic Geography, Physical Geography, Regional Geography and Turkish Geography. The Department of Geography opened the Thesis Master´s Program within the Institute of Social Sciences as of the 2017-2018 Academic Year and realized the first graduate student recruitment.

Qualification Awarded
The Department of Geography is subject to the first stage degree system of 240 ECTS credits in the field of Geography Science in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, a Bachelor´s degree in Geography Science is awarded.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have received sufficient scores from central exams (YKS and TYT) conducted by OSYM.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain a bachelor´s degree in Geography, the student must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) in the program and have a general weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Profile of The Programme
To train graduates who have basic program knowledge; who know how to produce data about the natural and human environment, and how to process, evaluate and manage these data with geographic information technologies.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Teacher Training Certificate: Starting from the 2009-2010 Academic Year, the Council of Higher Education has granted the right to grant the "Pedagogical Training Certificate" to Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Our students who pass the planned courses and receive this certificate have the opportunity to become "Branch Teachers" in public schools and private educational institutions. Graduates of the Geography Department can work as teachers in public schools, private schools and private teaching institutions if they meet the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of National Education. In addition, primarily in GIS units in provinces and districts; Infrastructure, Waste Management, Parks and Gardens, Marine Services, Historical Environmental Protection, Projects, Urban Design, Transportation Planning, Traffic Public Transportation, Tourism, Urban Planning, Zoning, Mapping, Earthquake and Ground Investigation, Urban Transformation, Strategic Planning, Housing, Disaster Coordination, Water and Sewerage and directorates like Ministry of Environment and Urbanization: Environmental Management, Environmental Impact Assessment and Planning, Special Environmental Protection, Land Registry and Cadastre, Bank of Provinces, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry: Agricultural Production and Development, Agricultural Research, State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Forestry, State Meteorological Works, Afforestation and Erosion Control, Nature Conservation and National Parks; Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources: M.T.A., Mining Affairs, Petroleum Affairs, Energy Affairs; Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Cultural Heritage and Museums, Research and Education; Ministry of Industry and Technology; Turkish Statistical Institute; Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; Communication, TÜRKSAT, Maritime, Highways, Coastal Safety, Civil Aviation; Ministry of Interior; They have the opportunity to find work in Population and Citizenship Affairs, Local Administrations; Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD), and the Ministry of National Defense. In addition, when they complete the necessary conditions, they can start their academic life as a Research Assistant.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who successfully complete their undergraduate education can enroll in master´s and doctoral programs provided that they receive a passing score from the ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student must register for classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the classes to be able to take the final exam. Students are subjected to at least 1 midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam (scores obtained from assessment tools such as homework, quizzes, etc. can also be evaluated as midterm grades) to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. Students who receive one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB, CB, and CC from a course are considered to have passed that course. DC and DD grades are conditionally successful grades. In order for a student to pass a course in which they receive a DC or DD grade, their general weighted grade point average must be at least 2.0.

In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all courses in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS) and obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

Facilities
The Geography Department of Bursa Uludag University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, serves with 4 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 3 Dr. Lecturers and 2 Res. Asst. The department has two classrooms with a capacity of 50 and 30 people. The GIS Lab. installation of the department is in the project phase. The students of the Geography Department can continue their education at the Klaipeda University in Lithuania, with which they have an agreement, for certain periods of time, thanks to the Erasmus student exchange program. Thanks to the double major and minor programs, students have the opportunity to specialize in a second branch and graduate with a second undergraduate diploma. There is an optional internship opportunity in our department. As the Department of Geography, our M.A. and D.R. graduate programs are open within the Institute of Social Sciences.
