Doctorate Programme in Automotive Engineering
General Description
Automotive Engineering Department was established in 2010 and was started to give education on master of science degree in 2011 and Ph.D. degree in 2013. The Automotive Engineering Department is a pioneer department for Turkey, as being one of the first of its kind in Turkey. The Department offers two programs to qualified students for further education and research at advanced level, leading to the degrees of MSc and Ph.D in Automotive Engineering. The Graduate Programs are MSc with thesis program in Automotive Engineering. In Automotive Engineering Department, education and research studies are carried out through four branches as Vehicle Design, Vehicle Dynamics and Control, Vehicle Propulsion and Power Systems, Vehicle Transport Systems.
Automotive Engineering program is subjected to 240 ECTS credits and eighth stage degree system in higher education. The Doctorate (Ph. D.) Degree in Automotive Engineering Program is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
Master school certificate is required. Application to the Ph.D program with master certificate depends on conformity condition of Ph.D. Candidates’ must have science base ALES score determined by Bursa Uludag University Senate. Students must have UDS, TOEFL, TOEFL or equivalent examinations accepted by YOK whose minimum score determined by Senate in languages of English, German, French, Italian, Russian and Arabic, for foreign students in English, German, French languages. BUU Senate decides the Equivalence of other foreign language documents. For foreign candidates, Tomer candidates Turkish competency given by TOMER and ALES exam results or GRE, GMAT and other exams which are by YOK in international level.

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Profile of The Programme
The program provided a total of not less than eight courses, a qualifying examination, thesis proposal, thesis and dissertation defense consists of the presentation. Consists of compulsory and elective courses in graduate courses. 240 ECTS total number of credits of the program. In order to be successful in the course concerned that this notice at least 75 out of 100.Students who have the relevant conditions are awarded to Doctoral in Automotive Engineering.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The objectives of the Automotive Engineering Doctor of Philosophy Program are to educate undergraduates to acquire knowledge and skills in automotive related issues especially in design and manufacturing and also to provide skills, in order to fulfill the needs and expectations of automotive industry and society and to play a leadership role in their economic and cultural advancement for the benefit of society providing world-class knowledge and education, showing continuous self-improvement in education and regarding as a well-known qualified program. Automotive Engineering Doctor of Philosophy Program aims to support development of automotive field in Bursa and in Turkish industry regarding the development of scientific advances and requirements of University-Industry cooperation. Automotive Engineering Doctor of Philosophy Program students take a total of 2 core course and at least a total of 6 elective courses. Additionally special topics course, seminar, qualifying exam and thesis work have to be done.
Department participates in exchange programs including the Erasmus program with universities which are contracted.

Access to Further Studies
Automotive Engineering Ph.D. program Graduates can work in the wide range of automotive industry organizations, R&D (Research and Development) firms, consulting companies, manufacturing industry, transportation systems, defense and aerospace industry, and in a wide variety of private and public sectors and firms in international and national organizations.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Graduates who successfully completed doctorate degree may apply to both in the same or related disciplines in higher education institutions at home or abroad to get a position in academic staff or to governmental R&D centers to get expert position.

Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully pass all compulsory and elective courses on the program (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) mention about “Qualification Requirements and Regulations”. And who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum will be given The Doctorate Degree in Automotive Engineering Program.

In 2011, the Automotive Engineering Department moved to the new modern building which includes offices, lecture rooms and laboratories. There are two modern conference rooms in the building, one of them is equipped with hardware and software which is used for distance learning activities and video conferences with national and international institutions. In Automotive Engineering Department, education and research studies are carried out through four branches as Vehicle Design, Vehicle Dynamics and Control, Vehicle Propulsion and Power Systems, Vehicle Transport Systems. Department has 6 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 10 Research Assistant. The department is proud to be a pioneer department for Turkey, as being one of the first of its kind in Turkey, it will lead many activities in automotive fields and it will successfully continue to attain the three goals of its mission; education, research and public service.
