Brief History
PhD Program of Elementary Education Department has been giving education since 1998 as a part of Institute of Social Sciences in Gorukle Campus of our university.During the 2011 2012 academic year it has become a part of the Institute of Educational Sciences and has evolved and developed according to the global standards and needs of the era. With its outstanding faculty members, our program aims helping its students, who wants to be academic researchers, or develop themselves to gain a scientific understanding, occupational knowledge, skills, and qualifications.

Qualification Awarded
This program is contingent upon 240 ECTS credits, second level degree system in higher education in the field of Elementary Education. On condition that the program is completed successfully, one possesses an PhD. degree in Elementary Education.

Specific Admission Requirements
The Program requires: 1-A masters degree in Elementary Education 2-Relevant score of ALES (Graduate Study Matriculation Exam) 3-Relevant score of English as a foreign language.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
One receives PhD Degree in GC upon successful completion of a 24 credit course work of theory, seminar, area specialty and dissertation (equal to 240 ECTS in total), with a GPA of 75 out of 100 (CB), and passing the PhD qualifying exam and proposing and successfully defending a dissertation in front of a jury.

Profile of The Programme
The aim of the Department of Elementary Education is to raise expert individuals having necessary information, skill, attitude and experience to educate and have high level of original researches and having critical thinking, high self esteem, and capable of following scientific research methods and innovations in his/her field on a national and international scale.
Targets
1.To raise well educated and equipped teachers and instructors in both national and international level.
2.To become an active department in national and international level with strong academic staff, completed physical substructure.
3.To establish an educational environment updating professional information according to the needs of day.
4.To provide an increase in scientific and social activities that instructors and students can work in cooperation .
5.To establish an educational environment dominated by discussion, questioning and sharing and provide its continuity.
6.To be in compliance with the development of national and international literature of the subjects instructed in Masters Degree level.

1. To be able to improve and deepen the information in the field of Elementary Education, and to reach to original results that innovate sciences.
2. To be able to understand the relationship between the subjects of Elementary Education and other science fields, to use the information that requires expertise in evaluating new and sophisticated ideas, cases, and facts actively.
3. To be able to gain the skill of using high level of qualitative and quantitative scientific research methods on his/her field.
4. To be able to gain the skill of using new or already used methods.
5. To be able to discuss original discoveries, opinions, approaches and offers in front of community of expertise by communicating effectively.
6. To be able to assume active duties in the stage of creating information society, solving problems and decision with scientific methods of scientific, technological, social and cultural improvements in the field of Elementary Education.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to register to courses and attend at least 70 % of theoretical and 80 % of practical courses in order to be eligible for taking the final exams. Students take final exams for each course at the end of the semester. Scores gained via evaluative methods such as projects, laboratory exams, quizzes etc. can count for midterm exam scores. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. A score of 75 (CB) is required for the final exams. AA, BA, BB, CB grades are regarded as successful.

Graduation Requirements
Successful completion of a course work of must and elective theory, seminar, area specialty and dissertation (equal to 240 ECTS in total), with a GPA of 75 over 100 (CB), and passing the PhD proficiency exam and proposing and successfully defending a dissertation in front of a jury.

Department of Elementary Education has the technically equipped classrooms and laboratories in which the education will be maintained. Our central university library is rich for periodicals and online data base and provides our students with favorable opportunities.
