General Description

Brief History
Field Crops Department is founded at Agricultural Vocational High school, Bursa in 1981 and, one year later education started in breeding, sowing, standardization, production, harvest and storage of the field crops (cereals, industrial plants, leguminous plants, and pulses edible legumes), range management, forage crops areas. In addition, tissue culture, physiology, molecular biology, cytology, medicinal and aromatic plants laboratories are used for education and scientific researches.
It has got 13 lecturers. The education had carried out in 1985-95 at Tezok campus, then moved into Gorukle Campus. Besides undergraduate education in the department, graduate education (MS or PhD) is also instructed. In the Agricultural Research area and experimental station at Gorukle campus, varying species and cultivars of field crops (cereals, industrial crops, leguminous, forage crops etc.) are produced for Research and Development. There are two disciplines in the department. These are; Growing and Breeding of Field Crops, Forage Crops and range management.

Qualification Awarded
Field Crops Department has primary graduation system of 139 credits (240 ECTS) in field crops area at higher education. A candidate who completes successfully program requirement gets Agriculture Engineer title and possesses first cycle degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates have to possess high school diploma or equivalent and get enough score from nationwide University Student Selection Examination.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To get Agriculture Engineer title and Bachelor Science Degree in Field Crops Department, students have to complete 139 credits (240 ECTS) from mandatory and optional courses in the program, complete 35 labor day training after sixth semester and Senior Thesis, and reach GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 grading system.

Profile of The Programme
To carry out researches in the area of growing cereals, industrial crops, edible and leguminous crops, pulses, edible legumes, range management, forage crops, genetics, breeding, biotechnology, seed science and technology, plant physiology, plant tissue culture and molecular biology and provide qualified education to individuals who may have sufficient experience in this context, create contemporary solutions to problems, leadership structure and serve at international standard.
Education plan of Field Crops Department is to teach basic information related to basic sciences and Agriculture Engineering subjects in the first year and to teach other information related to other sciences areas and Agriculture Engineering subjects in the second year. Advance courses in the Field Crops Department areas are taught to students in the third and fourth year. Thirty-five labor days of professional training at the end of the sixth semester in the curriculum, gives students practical knowledge and skills. Training placed on the sixth semester and 35 labor day. Senior Thesis course completed under the supervision of a faculty member in the VIII semester provides students information obtained from research and reporting skills. Department curriculum ensures that students graduated as Agricultural Engineer specializing in the field of Field Crops.

1. Sufficient knowledge in areas specific to the discipline of Mathematics, Science and Agricultural Engineering; Ability to use theoretical and applied knowledge in these fields in complex engineering problems,
2. The ability to identify, formulate and solve problems in the field of Field Crops, the ability to select and apply appropriate analysis and modeling methods for this purpose,
3. The ability to design a complex system, process, device or product related to the field of Field Crops to meet certain requirements under realistic constraints and conditions, in other words, taking into account the available possibilities and the current situation of the field in question, and the ability to apply modern design methods for this purpose,
4. Ability to develop, select and use modern tools necessary for the analysis and solution of complex problems encountered in field crops applications and to use information technologies effectively,
5. Ability to design experiments, conduct experiments, field studies, collect data, analyze and interpret results to examine complex problems encountered in the field of Field Crops or discipline-specific research topics,
6. Ability to work effectively in intradisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams; individual working skills,
7. Ability to write effective reports in the field and understand written reports, prepare design and production reports, make effective presentations, receive and give clear and understandable instructions,
8. Awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning; the ability to access information, follow developments in science and technology and constantly renew oneself,
9. Information about acting in accordance with ethical principles, professional and ethical responsibility, and standards used in engineering practices,
10. Knowledge of business practices in the Field Crops field, such as project management, risk management and change management; awareness about entrepreneurship and innovation; Information about Agricultural Engineering,
11. Information about the effects of Agricultural Engineering practices on health, environment and security at universal and social dimensions and the problems of the age reflected in the field of engineering; Awareness of the legal consequences of engineering solutions.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidates provided that they have sufficient score from ALES (General Record Exam) and knowledge of foreign language may register to graduate programs

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student is required to register at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the in class 80% of practices or laboratory of the registered courses to be able to take final exam. Students take at least one midterm and final exam. Final grade is based on 50% midterm (scores from homework, laboratory exam, quiz, midterm etc. may count) and 50% final exam. All exams are evaluated at 100 points. There is a requirement of at least 30 points from final exam. Student who gets any of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC grades passes the course. Grade of DC or DD are conditional grades. Overall weighted grade point average must be GPA of at least 2.0 for a student having DC or DD for a course to pass.

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the program, 139 credit course (total 240 ECTS) from compulsory and elective courses available in the program, obtain a GPA of at least 2.0 on 4.00 grade system, professional training of 35 working days after sixth semester and successfully complete Senior Thesis is required

Education: In this department, breeding, seed sowing, standardization, production, harvest and storage of the field crops (cereals, industrial plants, leguminous plants, pulses edible legumes), range management, forage crops are mainly taught. The faculty, the education period of whose is 4 years, aims to train engineers of agriculture in the branch of study in growing and improving crops.
Physical Areas: The Department has fields and glass house for field research studies both undergraduate and graduate students. Tissue culture, physiology, molecular biology, cytology, medicinal and aromatic plants laboratories are used for scientific researches and plant analysis.
International Relations: There are relations between Agricultural Faculty of Uludağ and Israel, Germany and Bulgaria.
Communication with Society: It is given different knowledge to private farmers by a special effort of the department lecturers; meeting with the farmers at their villages, inform the community via media
