19 Objective of the Course: The aim of this course is to introduce vegetable, fruit and field crops species to the students, to give the ability of orchard establishment and management by learning the fundamentals of Horticulture and field crops.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To learn the definition and importance of plant physiology and plant morphology;
2 Know vertical growth of roots, formation of root branch and root systems, Identify plant cell,organs and know their role Growth of trees; Uptake and transportation of water; Transpiration; Carbohydrates; Respiration ,Photosynthesis and Tropizm.Know effects of plant hormones;
3 The ability to understand basis of propagation techniques and application to all species;
4 Acquiring skills about problem solving in horticulture and field crops;
5 Being able to apply the cultural practices in orchards and fields;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Description, importance and classification of fruit, vegetable. Morphological and biological features of the horticultural plants organs such as root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit
2 The definition and importance of plant physiology and plan morphology. The plant tissues and organs. The plant vascular system and uptaking and transporting water and plant nutrient elements and effect of factors on them. Rrespiration, tranpiration and photosyhtesis events in the plant and effect of factors on them.
3 Morphological properties, growing requirements, growing techniques and practices. In addition harvesting and storage of cultivated vegetables.(Tomato, pepper,eggplant and muskmelon growing)
4 Morphological properties, growing requirements, growing techniques and practices. In addition harvesting and storage of cultivated vegetables.(Watermelon,cucumber,pumpkin-squash, and okra growing)
5 The growing techniques of industrial plants such as cotton and tobacco
6 The production methods, biology of reproduction, ecological demands, morphologic and physiological characteristics of pome (apple,pear) and nuts (walnut,hazelnut, almond) fruits both of which are involved in temperate climate fruit species
7 Morphological and physiological characteristics, growing technics of Legumes(been, faba bean and pea).

9 Basic morphological and agronomical characteristics of forage crops and their cultivation (Clover and vetch)
10 Basic morphological and agronomical characteristics of cereals and their cultivation.(Wheat)
11 Basic morphological and agronomical characteristics of sugar and oil plants and their cultivation such as potato, sugar beet.
12 Mid-term exam and the production methods, biology of reproduction, ecological demands, morphologic and physiological characteristics of stone (peach,cherry) and berry (strawberry) fruits both of which are involved in temperate climate fruit species.
13 Subtropical fruit growing.(Olive growing)
14 Basic morphological and agronomical characteristics of oil plants and their cultivation.( canola and sunflower)
