19 Objective of the Course: The basic aim of the course is to examine the Turkish administrative approach and its applications within a historical and comparative perspective and to present the connection of current features of Turkish state structuring and public administration with the past. Main topics to be discussed during the course are as follows: -Introduction to the History of State and Administration in Anatolia and Antiquity in general, -Ancient Anatolian civilizations political history and general characteristics of bureaucracy -The different stages of civilization that the Turkish nation has gone through and the basic characteristics of the States, empires and other smaller political organisations that the Turkish nation has founded. -The administrative system, the central and local organization, public service and public servants, public participation in different Turkish states such as Hun and Kok Turk Empires, The Uighur State, Karahan and Ghazna, The Great and The Anatolian States of Seljuks, The State of Ottomans. -The interactions of Turkish States with neighbouring states, the contribution of Turkish states to the world civilization. -The period of decay for the Ottoman State, the restructuring of the administrative system and the basic principles and characteristics of the Turkish Republic.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To evaluate the development Turkish administrative approach within a historical perspective;
2 To learn the development of civilization and the political and administrative organizations of great empires (Sasanid, Abbasid and Byzantium Empires) in Anatolia. ;
3 To gain the basic knowledge about the States, empires and other smaller political organisations that the Turkish nation has founded throughout the history.;
4 To have knowledge on the Turkish administrative tradition, the emerging administrative systems and the central and local organizations in this tradition and to evaluate different Turkish states accordingly;
5 To be able to comprehend the development of new administrative structures in the Republican era and to examine them within a historical perspective.;
