19 Objective of the Course: Terrestrial Navigation has been prepared to give the students necessary knowledge for terrestrial navigation.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 describe the history of navigation.;
2 apply various navigation techniques in marine navigation charts;
3 use difference nautical table and marine navigation charts.;
4 describe the marine navigation charts abbreviations and symbols.;
5 define light and fog signals;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Definition and history of navigation, development of nautical instruments.
2 The earth's shape, latitudes, longitudes, differance of latitudes and longitudes.
3 Definition of distance and direction at sea. Tools and materials used in the navigation.
4 Compass and compass use
5 Chart projections, specifications of the marine navigation charts.
6 Chart catalogues and usage.
7 Drawing a small area mercator chart, comparing the mercator projection with other kind of projections.
8 REVIEW and MIDTERM EXAM
9 The use of symbols and abbreviations books and use of notice to mariners.
10 Chart corrections.
11 Nautical publications and specifications.
12 Lights and fog signals, light characteristics and specifications.
13 Using of lighthouse books, lighthouse in the distance appear, belonging to abbreviations of lighthouse.
14 Fog signs, buoyage systems, introduction to system A and B symbols of the buoys on the charts. Showing lateral and cardinal signs on map.
