19 Objective of the Course: The course objective is to present the students and teach them the first two periods of English Literature, namely Old English Period and Middle English Period, to occupy them with the knowledge of the leading political, social and religious events of the time as well as the literary ones.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The course will contribute to the students’ professional development by providing them with the culture, lifestyle, and history of those people who are the native speakers of the language they are to teach. The students are encouraged to be open-minded for different ideas and worldviews.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Identifies the types of literary texts;
2 Identifies the literary movements and to match them with the literary texts;
3 Analyses the figures of speech in literary texts;
4 Analyses and comments on the literary texts;
5 Uses the knowledge of the relations between the author, period, and material in the analysis of the literary text.;
6 Relates the contexts of literary texts to contemporary situations and problems of the world. ;

4 Old English Period
5 Epic Poetry, “Beowulf”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
6 Lyric Poetry, “The Seafarer” and “The Ruin”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
7 Elegy, “The Wife’s Lament”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
8 The comparison of the three main genres of literature (drama, poetry and literary prose) during old english period.
9 Middle English Period
10 Geoffrey Chaucer and “Canterbury Tales”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
11 Allegory and dream vision, “Piers Plowman”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
12 Drama, Morality Play, “Everyman”; the analysis and interpretation of the text
