19 Objective of the Course: To provide knowledge and skill about nutrient requirements of dogs and cats, foods which are used in diets, commercial pet foods, preparing home-made diets and nutrition principles in different life stages of dogs and cats
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development After the diagnosis is made to the patients which come to pet clinics, to transfer the information at the level to be able to manage the disease-specific diet.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Comprehends the medical treatment is not the only way to cure nutritional diseases and also diet is important;
2 Comprehends the digestion and absorbtion mechanisms of Comprehends the dietary management in nutritional diseases (causing disorders on nutrition, absorbtion or metabolic disorders);
3 Learns the specific nutrients to prevent nutritional diseases in cats and dogs;
4 Comprehends the diet types used in nutritional diseases;
5 Gets information about commercial and home made diets used in clinical nutritions ;
6 Gets information about specific feedstuffs and diets for rodents and exotic animals;

2 Digestive tract of cats and dogs: Digestive organs of cat and dog and their functions Preparing home-made diets which are used in dog and cat nutrition and feeding practices
3 Nutrient absorption and digestion in cats and dogs: Absorption and digestion mechanism of water, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins and minerals Preparing home-made diets which are used in dog and cat nutrition and feeding practices
4 Nutrient requirements of cats and dogs: Water, protein, carbohydrates and lipids Preparing home-made diets which are used in dog and cat nutrition and feeding practices
