19 Objective of the Course: The aim of the course is to discuss the contemporary urban design theories and principles together with examples of theoretical frameworks and implementation studies. To investigate the ways of achieving sustainable urban design in housing areas by the aid of contemporary urban design principles .
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development To be informed about the contemporary approaches about housing areas and the house will let the architects to design for quality of life.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To understand the necessity of physical and socio-cultural factors and the relationship between them for architectural and urban design. ;
2 To gain the ability of using the relationships of physical and socio-cultural environment factors in design of especially housing areas.;
3 To handle the architectural and urban design problems in a holistic approach. ;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 The concepts of city, culture and space. Their roles and importance for everyday lives.
2 Definition of the concepts of urban and urbanization. Explanation of urbanization theories.
3 Investigation of the concepts of urban and urbanization in national and international literature throughout time and their importance for the society.
4 Explanation of the factors effecting the development of urban forms throughout history.
5 Investigating the roles of housing areas for the urban development process
6 Explanation of the effects of housing areas for the improvement of urban design theories and principles
7 Introducing the contemporary urban design theories and principles
8 Explanation of the effects of housing areas for the improvement of contemporary urban design theories and principles
9 Urban design approaches for the achievement of sustainable urban development
