19 Objective of the Course: 1. To learn the basic concepts and terms of mythology. 2. Examining the historical sources, texts and narratives of Turkish mythology. 3. Analyzing Turkish mythology iconography.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Acquiring the ability to benefit from Turkish mythology iconography in graphic design studies.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Learns the definition, scope, importance, function and sources of myth and mythology.;
2 To consolidate the knowledge of the iconographic expression language developed throughout the world cultural history with Turkish mythology.;
3 Learns Turkish Mythology with its main lines.;
4 Learns important symbols, icons, pictograms, colors and numbers in Turkish Mythology.;
5 Gains the ability to benefit from the content of Turkish mythology in his designs.;
6 Relates Turkish Mythology with other mythologies, examines similarities and differences.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Informing about the purpose, importance, processing and evaluation criteria of the course. Basic concepts of Myth and Mythology.
2 Mythology theories and analysis methods; Remarks on the premise of myths.
3 Classification of myths and examples: Cosmogonic myths, anthropogonic myths, etiological myths, theogonic myths and eschatological myths.
4 Definitions of iconography and iconology, an overview of iconographic and iconological criticism method.
5 Introduction to Turkish Mythology. Universe and world designs in Turkish mythology, shamanism, totemism.
6 Creation and death in Turkish Mythology. Gods and goddesses.
7 Nature and elements in Turkish mythology.
8 Creatures in Turkish mythology.
9 Animals in Turkish mythology.
10 Numbers in Turkish mythology.
11 Colors in Turkish mythology.
12 Turkish Epics
13 Overview of Sumerian, Ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
14 Overview of Sumerian, Ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Similar and different aspects of Turkish mythology with other mythologies.
