19 Objective of the Course: The aim of this course is to introduce and comprehend the concepts of literature, their relations with each other, verse forms used in Turkish literature, verse types and formal and structural features of verse metres.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development This course enables students to recognise literary texts and comprehend their features and transfer them to future generations.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Recognises the basic concepts of the art of literature.;
2 Compares prose and verse style works in terms of structural features. ;
3 Understands the formal features of the Old Turkish literature verse forms.;
4 Knows the structural features of the major genres of Old Turkish literature.;
5 Knows the basic logic and functioning of the measure of aruz.;
6 Analyses aruz and zznini on sample texts.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 The basic concepts of literature and the relationships between these concepts
2 Basic features of literary works and the nature of literary language (prose / poetry)
3 The place of old Turkish literature in general literature classification
4 Old Turkish literature poetry forms: poetry forms formed by couplets (gazel, kaside, mesnevi, kıt’a, nazm etc.)
5 Forms of poetry formed with bends, single-bend poetry forms (rübai, tuyuğ)
6 Forms of poetry formed with bends, multi-bend poetry forms (murabba, muhammes, museddes, müsebba, terci'-i bend, terkîb-i bend etc.).
7 Poetry text analyses for the determination of Old Turkish literature poetry forms
8 Literary genres in Old Turkish literature
9 Formal and structural features of literary genres
10 Poetry text analyses for the determination of Old Turkish literature poetry types
11 Aruz and its features
12 Commonly used aruz patterns in Turkish literature
13 Aruz practices on poetry texts
14 Analysing studies to teach the structure of the aruz scale.
