19 Objective of the Course: To present to the MA students the geography of Turkestan in the Middle Ages and of the present Turkish speaking peoples in Central Asia, to obtain to them easily understanding some political and cultural events in the present, learning the region with both its sources and short history.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development It enables graduate students to be trained in the field of Turkistan History and prepares them for the Doctorate program.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 The students will learn the meanings of the terms "Turkestan", "Central Asia", "Inner Asia", "Turan" and "Central Eurasia";;
2 will learn the tribes taking place one time in the geography of Turkestan and the states founded here in the Antiquity and the Middle Ages;;
3 will comprehend the roles of Turkestan which were played on the trade routes;;
4 will learn the process of Islamization of the region and the Turks;;
5 will comprehend the importance of the civilizations in Turkestan on Turkification and Islamization of Anatolia;;
6 will know that how Mongol conquests in the 13th century were realized and how they influenced later political and cultural cases.;
7 will learn how the region of Turkestan and the ethnical groups here became different from the Western Turks in the course of time;;
8 will learn development of Turkestan and taking place in the world of civilizations during the time of Temur and afterwards;;
9 will learn the historical, cultural and linguistic basis of today's Turkish republics in the region.;

2 The empires ruled in Turkestan in the Antiquity and the some cultures: the period of the Achamenids
3 The religions in the region from the very beginning: Mazdaism and Buddhism
4 Turkestan during the Parthians, Sasanians and the Kushans
5 The Hephthalites and Turkic Kaghanates
6 The roles played by the region of Turkestan on the Silk Road
7 Expansion of Islam in Turkestan and its impacts on the region
8 Turkestan in the time of the Mongol Empire (13th-14th centuries)
9 Influences of the Mongolian conquests upon Turkestan
10 The Mongolian ulus: the Chaghataids
11 The Golden Horde / Djuqids
12 Turkestan during the Timurid empire
13 Shahrukh Sultan and the “Timurid Renaissance” in Turkestan
14 The influences of Timurid period in the region, Turkestan after the Timurids
