19 Objective of the Course: The objective of the course is to analyse historical and theoretical foundations of the notions such as state, democracy and human rights by emphasising their relationship and interaction.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development This lesson will teach students to think on law as whole and see historic development of it by changes in social and economic life.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Students will be able to analyse political theories of ancient Greek philosophers.;
2 Students will be able to analyse political theories of ancient Greek philosophers.;
3 Students will be able to analyse the repercussions of social, economic and political characteristics of the Medieval Age concerning political theories.;
4 Students will be able to interpret the conflict between the worldly and spiritual powers and the path which leads to secularism.;
5 Students will be able to describe intellectual foundations of the modern nation-state.;

Theoretical Practical
1 Inaugural lecture: The subject, method and sources of the course
2 Ancient Greek Polis: Foundations and Institutions of democracy.
3 Theory of state and right before Plato
4 Sophysm, and Sokrates’ and Plato’s theory of state
5 Aristotle’s Theory of citizen, society, state and constitution.
6 Helenistic Age: Epicuros, Stoics: The bridge to post-Greek era; universal equality.
7 Theory of state and right at the time of Roman Empire
8 Medieval Age: Feudal organisation, society, state and law.
9 Medieval Age: Patristic Epoch and Scholastic Epoch
10 St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas and the re-encounter with Aristotle.
11 Late Medieval Age: Dante’s divine global state.
12 William of Occam: Foundations of secular thinking and the determination period of the Modern State
13 The determination period of the Modern State: Jean Bodin
14 The legal definition of sovereignty and Thomas Hobbes.
