19 Objective of the Course: To discuss historical roots of democracy, an important concept in terms of political thought and political theory, and various approaches to democracy and critics on it with reference neighbour concepts
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development this course contribute the intellectual development of the student.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 S/he learns to define concepts with paying attention to their historical backgrounds and opposite meanings.;
2 S/he comprehends how to build an argument by bringing together different disciplines and information.;
3 S/he gains understanding on theory generating and theory testing.;
4 S/he gains experience on how to display a systematic approach by taking concepts into consideration with reference to other concepts.;
5 S/he gains knowledge on creating counter-argument and defending her/his own argument against counter-arguments in a scientific way.;
6 S/he learns that theories are in close relations with practices; and, it is important to analyze political events without disregarding realities. ;
7 S/he learns to detect deficiencies of theories and criticize them while applying them to different cultural practices.;
8 S/he gains ability to compare arguments of different authors/thinkers on similar issues in an analytical way.;
9 S/he gains ability to analyze a theory/approach/ideology with regards to contributions and reformulations of their followers.;
10 S/he understands that concepts are not not sytatic elements, they are rather dynamic ones. ;
