19 Objective of the Course: The aim of this course is to give information about the political, social and cultural history of the ancient Near East, from prehistory to the end of the Iron Age (ca. 330 BC). Near Eastern is understood here in its widest geographical extent, including primarily the Mesopotamian lowlands, Iranian and Syro-Anatolian highlands, as well as the Levantine coast.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development With this course, the student learns about Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Anatolian civilizations.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Be able to use the main sources of ancient history.;
2 Comprehend the process of the rise and fall of the ancient Near East civilizations.;
3 Be able to explain how the history of the past influences the political and social institutions of the present.;
4 Outline major developments in a historical timeframe and also map them in a geographical framework.;
5 Define visual materials remaining from the ancient Anatolian civilizations.;
6 Identify historical and geographical boundaries of the ancient Eastern history.;
7 Define the cultural, social and economic structures of ancient Mesopotamian states.;
8 Define the museums containing important collections of ancient Eastern civilizations.;
9 Be able to examine the historical events in an objective viewpoint.;
