19 Objective of the Course: The main goal of this class is to offer a comparative and historical approach to sociology of food and agriculture. The second goal is to present a comprehensive and critical approach to the problems of modern food and agriculture nexus.

1 Understanding pre-modern forms of agriculture prevalent prior to the 1870s;
2 Understanding the great transformation of agriculture after the 1870s.;
3 Historicizing the emergence of rural sociology in conjunction with modern agriculture.;
4 Understanding the transformation of the field of rural sociology.;
5 Historicizing the rise of modern sociology of agri-food systems.;
6 Critique of modern agri-food systems. ;
7 Critical approaches to discussions on rural life and peasantry.;
