19 Objective of the Course: To obtain the essentials of scientific research methods and techniques and write simple research paper.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To able to explain the process of research proposal and prepare a proposal.;
2 To be able to collect and review the literature. ;
3 To be able to use the quantitative and qualitative data collecting methods in the field of language learning and teaching.;
4 To be able to interpret the scientific data.;
5 To be able to use the scientific writing techniques in the field of language instruction.;
6 To be able to consider the process of language learning and teaching under a scientific point of view.;
7 To be able to implement interdisciplinary research. ;
8 To be able to recognize oneself and the world around their from a scientific perspective and in an objective way.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Introduction: Explaining the basic terminology of knowledge, science, scientific research The characteristics of the knowledge and the science.
2 Steps of a scientific research: Choosing a topic or problem, collecting literature, developing questions or hypothesis; deciding the methods of data collection and the data analyze; collecting, analyzing and interpreting the data and reposting the results.
3 Points to be considered as selecting a research subject; types of resources; using primary and secondary references; finding and organizing of the literature. Assigning research projects.
4 Developing research questions and hypotheses.
5 Data collection tools: Observation, Experiment, Questionnaire, Scale, Review, Interview, description etc.
6 Data collection procedure, analyze (quantitative and qualitative) and interpreting.
7 Quantitative data analyze with Excel software.
8 Quantitative data analyze with SPSS software.
9 Qualitative data analyze with NVivo software.
10 Scientific writing techniques and standards: APA, MLA etc…
11 Investigating of sample studies (research papers, articles).
12 Investigating of sample studies (theses, symposium presentations etc.).
13 Writing, presenting and disseminating of results: Classroom presentations, symposia, periodicals etc.
14 Evaluation of the semester.
