19 Objective of the Course: Main purpose of this course is to help the graduate students of history for reading the Ottoman manuscripts that they are going to need for their researches and provide them with a better understanding of the terminology of these documents.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To understand importance of the historical documents.;
2 To read and understand the Ottoman Turkish better for studies of the Ottoman history;
3 To get informed about the archives related to the Ottoman history and to learn methods of benefiting from them;
4 To get familiar with the texts that are important for the Ottoman history.;
5 To get familiar with the scripts used in the archives.;
6 To be able to read the manuscripts.;
7 To get familiar with vocabulary of the Ottoman Turkish and to be able to understand their meanings.;
8 To get familiar with Arabic and Persian vocabulary of the historical texts and to be able to understand their meanings.;
9 To try to grasp meaning of the historical texts. ;
10 The students taking this course learn the Ottoman archival sources and can search them.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 The aim and objectives of the course will be explained.
2 The Ottoman documents and the archives the documents are
3 Sample texts of Rik’a script, punctuation, abbreviations, month names, seals, using dictionary.
4 The document of “…şehriye ikiyüş kuruş maaşla…..”, reading the dates, “….feth-i İslam pîşgâhında…” expressions.
5 “….kanunname-liva-i Adana….” legal codes, registry books, expressions.
6 “….” deprem belgeler, reading and understanding rik’a script, seals.
7 Reading “…vakfiye”, terminology of religious foundation documents, dictionary.

9 “…bakire mahsus izinname” Osmanlı mahalle yönetimi, belgeler
