19 Objective of the Course: The ability to obtain information on political and social structure during the Umayyad period, and give perspective on causes and consequences of events in this period to assess and allow the use of this knowledge in contemporary issues.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 The ability to understand the importance and place of the Umayyad period in the history of Islam.;
2 The ability to realize the historical conditions before the establishment of Umayyads.;
3 The ability to compare political, military and social practices of the Umayyad calips.;
4 The ability to analyze the emergence of new developments during the Umayyads.;
5 The ability to explain the reasons for the emergence of different views and madhaps during the Umayyads.;
6 The ability to make analogy between some of nowadays/today’s events and developments of the Umayyad period.;
7 The ability to produce independent ideas about the applications the Umayyad period.;
8 The ability to recognize the classical and modern sources about the Umayyad period.;
9 The ability to critique the modern approaches about the Umayyad period by using the scientific methods.;
10 The ability to evaluate about the position and functions of the caliphate institution during the Umayyad period.;

2 The establishment of Umayyad State.
3 The caliphate of Muawiya and his managment approach.
4 The internal political activities in the period of Muawiya.
5 Transformation the caliphate into the sultanate.
6 Incident of Karbala and its consequences.
7 Responses to Incident of Karbala
8 The transition of management to Marwanids.
9 The caliphate of Abd al-Malik
10 The conquests of Valid b. Abd al-Malik era.
11 The conquests of Sulayman b. Abd al-Malik era.
12 Ummayyads stagnation period.
13 The fragmentation of the Umayyad State.
14 Destruction of Umayyad State and its reasons.
