19 | Objective of the Course: | This course examines the idea of city through a maneuver aimed at reaching the core problem of urbanism: Is the city a reality or a mere site of intellectual representation? As we can allusively, metaphorically, and albeit crassly, put: Is urban the aleph? In other words, can we appropriate a city, as a site where everything comes together? Is the plethora of social -and hence sociological- categories entangled in the material, cultural, ideological, and economic reality of a city entail an explanatory power? |
