19 Objective of the Course: Comprehension of functions of the liver and kidney in which many biochemical processes occur and which are vital to continuation of life, and their normal and abnormal states and function tests related to them.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Ability to comprehend genral anatomical and physiological structures of the liver and kidney;
2 Ability to comprehend the role and significance of the liver in metabolic processes;
3 Ability to comprehend the role of the liver in physiological processes.;
4 Being able to define liver function tests and interpret related disorders.;
5 Ability to comprehend functions and significance of the kidney;
6 Ability to define kidney function tests and interpret related disorders;
7 Being able to reach novel findings about functions, disorders and diseases of the liver and kidney.;
8 Ability to disseminate knowledge gained about functions of the liver and kidney in various settings;

1 Anatomy of the liver and properties
2 Metabolic functions of the liver
3 Detoxification and protective functions of the liver
4 Secretion functions of the liver; secretion of bilirubin glucoronides and bile formation, bile salts
5 Storage functions of the liver; glikogen, iron, various vitamins and other metals
6 Hematological functions of the liver
7 Circulatory functions of the liver
8 Functional anatomy of the kidneys
9 Glomerular filtration
10 Functions of the tubuli
11 Control of kidney actions
12 Extracorporeal dialysis ve hemoperfusion
13 Retention of substances necessary for normal bodily functions and regulation of osmotic pressure
14 Regulation of acid-base homeostasis, removal of excess metabolites and foreign substances
