19 Objective of the Course: To teach the students the skills necessary for the solution of the problems related with the ruminant surgical disesaes order to teach the surgical diseases of the small and large ruminants, the approach to the significant diseases encountred in the field, asepitc surgical principals in ruminant surgery and operative treatments of surgical diseases. To educate qualified students in the field of surgical diseases of small and large ruminants, important field problems, principles of ruminant surgery and operative treatment of the surgical diseases in ruminants. Multidiscipliner approach to the surgical diseaes of the ruminants and to acquire experience on this area.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Students graduate with sufficient knowledge and experience about the surgical diseases of large and small ruminants.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Knows surgical diseases of the small and large ruminants;
2 Learns the principles of aseptic surgery Ruminant surgery;
3 Learns to operational, functional and economical treatment and to gain the patient's production ;
4 Learns the principles and methods of operative treatment, especially under field conditions;
5 Wins intellectual identity to educate breeders and trainers people;
6 Multidisciplinary work culture wins;
7 Becomes the owner of approaches and skills to the professional veterinary surgeon;
8 Learns to biosecurity and preventive medicine;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Principles of the ruminant surgery. Preparation for surgical intervention in ruminants. Prevention from surgical infection. Preoperative and postoperative care and nutrition.
2 Surgical diseases of the head region (surgery of eyes, surgery of horn, surgery of nose, sinus disease and surgery).
3 Treatment of sucking reflex, surgery of cervical region (pharynx, oesophagus and trachea)
4 Surgical treatment of umbilical lesions (umbilical abcess, umbilical cord imflammation, umbilical hernia)
5 Surgical procedures in the abdominal area (laparotomy, rumenotomy, rumen cannulation techniques, intestinal volvulus/torsion)
6 Diseases of abomasum and therapeutic applications of abomasal diseases (abomasal ulcus, abomasal fistulas, abomasal dilatation, displacement and tortion),Diseases of cecum (dilatation, dislocation and tortion) and cecum surgery (typhlotomy, typhlectomy)
7 Congenital intestinal anomalies (atresia coli, atresia ani et recti) and surgical treatment. Submucosal resection at prolapsed rectum, amputation of rectum.
8 Obstructive urolithiasis and surgical treatment (uretrotomy, uretrostomy). Castration. Amputation of tail
9 Common bursal sac disaeses in cattle and treatment methods
10 Arthritis and treatment methods of them
11 Other operations in the extremities (patellar luxation, tendon ruptur, fleksor deformaties (bleture), amputation)
12 Conservative and operative treatment of long bone fractures in extremities
13 Operative procedures in foot diseases of cattle (limax, volar= plantar resection m.flex.dig.prof., arthrodesis of the distal dig. Joint, amputation and desarticulation of the digits
14 Foot disease in small ruminants
