21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Explaning the sources of Early Christian / Late Antique architecture and architectural decoration;
2 Recognizing the main caracteristics and exemples of Early Byzantine cities ;
3 Recognizing and defining the Early Byzantine architectural monuments ;
4 Dating the architectural monuments belonging to Early Byzantine time;
5 Recognizing and dating the material and techniques of Early Byzantine monuments ;
6 Explaining, recognizing and dating the exemples of architectural monuments and decoration from various regions;
7 İnterpreting the Early Byzantine architectural remains and fragments;
8 Knowledge of basic literature on the course contents and of research methods;

1 History of Byzantine Empire, periods of art and architectural history, terminology, historical geography
2 Early Byzantine cities
3 Construction and decoration materials, techniques, architects, master buildings, workers and patrons in Early Byzantine architecture
4 Plan types, their origins and connexion between form and function of religous architecture in Early Christian time
5 Early Christian religious buildings
6 Early Christian religious buildings
7 Foundation of Constantinopolis, topography and monuments in Early Christian / Late Antique era
8 Midterm exam and general review
9 Innovations, buildings, new forms of architectural decoration of the time of Theodosius II (V. c.)
10 Early Christian architecture in Lycia, Pamphylia, Cilicia, Isauria, Syria
11 Architectural features of Iustinian era
12 Knowledge of religious, civic and public buildings, palaces, water facilities, material, techniques, decoration and examples of sixth century
13 Sixth century buildings in Istanbul
14 Sixth century architecture outside the Capital (Anatolia, Greece, Syria, Italy)
