19	Objective of the Course:	Introducing the history, the culture, the monuments, the topography and the social structure of Istanbul from its foundation up today.
20	Contribution of the Course to Professional Development

Learning Outcomes:

1	Knowledge of history and topograpy of the city ;
2	Regognizing the legends and primary sources and their contents on Istanbul;
3	Recognizing general view and monuments of İstanbul in the ancient and byzantine era;
4	Recognizing the monuments and their history of Istanbul belonging the Ottoman and Republican ages ;
5	Having ability to distinguish and to define the styles and dates of the monuments in İstanbul;
6	Having ability to annotate the reflections of main historical events on the aspect of the city;
7	Recognizing the evolution and urban continuity of Istanbul through the ages;
8	Having knowlegde of the social structure, customs, music and foods of İstanbul ;

2	Prehistorical settlements and findings
3	Foundation legends of Byzantium and of Constantinopolis
4	Istanbul and its monuments in Antiquity
5	The aspect and monument of Istanbul in Roman age
6	Istanbul in Early Byzantine period: city walls, roads, squares and monuments, water facilities, palaces and houses
7	Early Byzantine churches and monasteries
8	Istanbul in the Middle Ages, its history and remaining buildings
9	Midterm exam and general review
10	Conquest and Turkification of Istanbul, mosques and complex from Ottoman period
11	Palaces, kiosks, pavilions and houses from Ottoman period
12	Military buildings, fountains, bazaars, khans, mausoleums, churches, synagogues belonging to Ottoman period
13	Social and cultural structure, feeding culture, games, music, professions, dress in Byzantine and Ottoman times
14	Istanbul in the Republican era, change, urban continuity
